Some remains of the important Roman city of Verulamium are still visible in this open space and can be visited, as can a museum of Roman artefacts found here. This is a very popular park enjoyed by many people, especially on a fine Spring day like today. It is set in 100 acres of parkland with 2 lakes created from the River Ver.I hadn't been here since my schooldays back in the 1970s when I remember being fascinated by the Roman remains. Today I only had time for a quick look before walking back up the hill in time for a guided tour of St. Albans Cathedral, the main focus of today's visit to the city.I'd like to come back soon to have a proper look around and revisit the historical sites. The modern city (which has more the feel of a market town, apart from the Cathedral) is a good 10 or 15 minutes walk away, uphill either along Abbey Mill Lane or along a footpath through the grassed area of the long-disappeared Abbey buildings. You will walk past 'Ye Olde Fighting Cocks', reputedly the oldest licensed inhabited inn in England, which would be a good place for refreshments.

We had never visited before and found this park very pleasant. A lovely large park with a lake and history. Lots of local people enjoying the sunshine and activities.Play park for children. You can walk through from the museum to the cathedral.

Great walking paths and beautiful on a sunny day. The swans on the lake are giant - probably from so many people feeding them! Really enjoyed this park and would definitely want to take a stroll through again.

This is a lovely park with lots to do in it. Water park for the children, outdoor gym, play area as well as the lake with lots of waterfowl. The new leisure centre is just inside the park with its swimming pool and gym and there is also the roman museum and roman remains. Well worth a visit.

Having lived near the park many years ago we have very happy memories of our daily walks to feed the ducks. The day we visited was rather dreary and wet, but we still managed to enjoy wlaking through the park from the Roman Museum to the Abbey. There is a café in the park, which we did not visit because of the 'no buggies' policy. The lakes were full of ducks, swans and geese, which we enjoyed watching. The water play area was closed, it being February, and as it was raining we did not visit the play area for the same reason. The park is well kept and it is a pleasure to walk through, even on a grey wet day.

A beautiful scenic park with a huge lake, lots of ducks & geese. A Childrens Water Play area plus a childrens play park - swings etc.A vintage pub at one corner of the park, a Waffle Restaurant at another corner and a Roman museum with fantastic displays. And a great view of the impressive St Albans Abbey.

This is a beautiful park almost in the centre of St Albans. It's a fantastic place to spend a cheap family day out, especially in the summer when the free splash park is open. There is also a children's play park, a stunning lake where you can feed the ducks and occasionally a small fair. And for those without children it's also a great place to park up under a tree for a picnic and a glass of wine. For the sporty folk, there are beach volley ball courts, tennis courts, mini golf and a weekly Park Run event on a Saturday morning too. I live close by and had to forgo the luxury of a back garden in order to be able to afford a place in this lovely city, but thanks to this fabulous park I haven't missed it at all.

Beautiful park in the middle of St Albans. It is well kept and safe to walk in. Lots of water birds on the lake in the middle of the park and dont forget to take a look at the remains of the Roman Wall. At the edge of the Park are a number of old pubs that are worth stopping off at.

Our visit to this excellent museum was spoiled by the sheer number of schoolchildren who jostled us, shouted and ran about. The museum is small and was overwhelmed. We could not hear any of the video presentations, nor get near to many of the exhibits. Some teachers made efforts to control their charges, others did not. Museum staff tried their best, but there were just too many children. Great pity!

The park, which includes a lake covers a vast area and is particularly popular with families in the summer. If you're a young family who want a cheap day out then you need go no further. Hvae a nice day and enjoy yourselves.

We were in St Albans visiting relatives who had recently relocated, and on a bright crisp January morning took a stroll through the town down to the park. I'd been to the park several year's back and remembered it as pleasant, but had forgotten just how attractive an area it is.We had a lovely stroll along the river watching the ducks, swans and geese. The view across the lakes to the Roman ruins would be a Romantic's dream. The park was very well maintained, no litter and had a nice atmosphere with families ambling along in the bright winter sun. Popular, but not over-crowded on the day we visited.
