Working in Campbeltown staying at the Royal hotel I played the Dunes course. I can not advise people enough to go and play this course. Its hard to believe it is only 5 years old, the greens and fairways are superb.I played in November and February what a delight.

We received a very friendly welcome and the head greenkeeper was very enthusiastic. The course was in good condition but there are too many blind shots for my liking. I like it more on the second round

Great but difficult golf course especially when the wind blows. Could do with a few extra markers on one or two holes. You get a great cup of tea in the golf club if you just call in.

Playing golf at Machrihanish Dunes is a breath-taking experience. It is challenging but can be enjoyed by all standards of golfer. It is a mental as well as physical challenge. I asked a Swedish visitor if he was enjoying his round and his reply was that he felt privileged to be playing there. I wholeheartedly agree.

The course is organic, almost all of it made by sheep, cows and wind. Beautiful scenery, challenging but playable holes. Tiny clubhouse but very good service.

Undoubtedly the jewel in the Kintyre golfing crown.Mach Dunes occupies a fantastic stretch of coastline and has been designed to take full advantage of the slopes and hollows. Each hole offers a different challenge and no two holes are the same - the green complexes have to be seen to be believed. (The closest comparison I can offer is a hybrid of Western Gailes and Dundonald). It is fair to say there are a number of blind shots (an excuse, not that you need one, to play at least 36 holes!) but that is just following the lead of more established classic links such as Prestwick.Added to the challenge of the links, was a friendly and helpful welcome (we were encouraged to tee off earlier than our time so as to finish before the evening cool), great soup and sandwiches at lunch and a general impression that they really understand what true golf is all about. This is Golf in the Kingdom. We will be back.

Although a long drive to get here, once you tee off you quickly realise what a cracking course this is. No 2 shots are the same which makes for such a fun and interesting round. The location is superb and the quality of the course is the same. If you are looking for something different to your run of the mill golf course this is a must play. The staff were very helpful allowing us out earlier than our booked tee time which was much appreciated. Overall very impressed and will definitely be back at some point in the future. Declan Curtis

I visited The Dunes 4 weeks ago or so staying overnight in Campbeltown. We played the Sunday in what could be described as Hurricane conditions. Unfortunately on the 8th hole I accidentally injured my ankle and was unable to continue. I felt sorry for my friends who cut short their round and emailed Mach Dunes to ask if we came back at a future date could they offer us a discount. Colin Chrystie was superb and offered us a free 4 ball. This was extremely generous and more than I expected. We took up that offer yesterday and I was delighted to replay the holes I'd played plus the others I hadn't. It was a warm calm day which was a stroke of luck. The setting is stunning with the azure blue ocean lapping onto the light coloured sand. The course is in first class condition and is a real test of golf. There had been criticism of not knowing where you were headed but we found no issue whatsoever with fairway marker poles, crosses behind greens and the route to the next tee clearly marked. There is plenty of fairway to hit - hitting it is a different story and there are some stunning holes. There is great variety between the holes with driveable par 4s to monster par 5s. It must be a huge challenge off the black tees!!We are no superstars with handicaps 10, 14 , 14 and 16 and it is hard no doubt but not impossible. We had a few birdies between us. It is a tiring course because of the contours and there are long walks from green to tee but when you craft a course out of a setting like this that is to be expected. The course designer has shown great imagination to put together 18 holes of this class. The greens are awesome with slopes and gullies and all add to the experience. It is a true links course and we loved it!If it was closer to our homes I'm sure the four if us would seriously consider membership. If you are local or from foreign shores make a point of playing this course. You will not regret it. Thanks again to Colin and staff for a great experience. See you soon

I played Machrahanish Dunes on 24/08/2014 on my own. I had the course almost to myself. The course has a lovely natural feel to it and looks like it has been around for 100 years+ and not just since 2009. THere are some bling shots but this adds to the charm and challenge of the course and people should remember it is links course they are playing and not Augusta! The views from tbe holes that run along thr dunes and beach are spectacular.

A wee gem amongst the sand dunes. Fabulous greens with valleys and hills on every one! Great fun and the lady at the clubhouse was lovely and helpful

You definitely need a caddy on this course. We had a Caddy the first day and played with two members the next two days. We rented pull carts and according to our FitBits we walked 8 miles and climbed 24 stairs. Quite the course, but so enjoyable. Would return in a minute.

loved that so natural no manicured fairways, beautiful views from all 18 holes. The staff could not be anymore helpful and friendly if they tried. Watch out if rains as its windy too as right next to Atlantic Ocean. A must to play for all Golfers

One of the best courses I have played. The rolling fairways and undulating greens give a real test for any golfer. With outstanding views all round this is the perfect way to spend a day!!

This is an outstanding links course to play. The clubhouse also had very friendly staff and excellent food.

Played here on Saturday 5th July. Had planned to play on my own, but two kind members asked me to join up, so thank you Ian & sandy( if u read this), this is a proper links course, hard fairways and difficult greens, played off the yellow, but tried a few off the black( play off 4), it's a long walk, but you will have walked a fantastic course! Greens were hard but fair, weather was fantastic. If you want to tick a box and say you have played 1 of the best links in the world, play here! As Arnie once said"I'll be back"!
