fantastic collection of artifacts and good description of local history and treasures. Fascinating geology.

Upon entering I was greeted by some lovely ladies whom were more than happy to show me around and explain anything in the place to me. My favorite piece was the shrunken head, though I also loved the all bits of Scottish history. Very nice place. A gem of Elgin. Well worth the visit if you like museum's.

Lovely small museum with interesting artefacts and lots of local history. Not state run, yet it is free (give a donation - don't be mean!) Pieces are not labelled in the displays - they are numbered, with folders to refer to for information. I found this a bit limiting - I like to see a brief description of what I am looking at and, if I want more info, it is good to have it available. There are too many things to look up every one and so, if you are rushed, you look up none.

tons of useful and interesting info about the locality- geology- palaeontology, history archaeology, such a shame that is so desperately needs a small place to sit down and eat a cake / drink a coffee.

Well worth a visit! although quite small the building is beautiful. The museum has some fab artifacts and we especially liked the shrinking head and the mummy. Entrance is free of charge but there is the opportunity leave a donation which we did. Children get an activity pack on arrival which is a great idea. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Do not be put off by my heading the museum is very much worth a Fed hours of your time if you are in and around Elgin we spent time here after the cathedral and very much enjoyed the visit. There are some very interesting exhibits and although not a large museum it is well run, well staffed and a free tourist attraction and they are few and far between these days.

Went in for a quick visit and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of exhibits. I particularly liked the shrunken head. Would definitely recommend.

small historic building built on purpose to house this amazing collection - we loved the pictish bull - but be surprised to find a buddha from Burma and one from Thailand!

Really interesting museum and so near by. Kids really enjoy going for a look round, and we have been a lot of times. Plenty of interesting and local found artifacts on display. The staff are very polite and were very accommodating on our last visit with a school group.

Vey surprised by the museum, looks tiny from the outside but it has a vast collection for a small town. Highlights include the shrunken head and mummified cat. Staff are very willing to chat and give information, there are also interactive things for children to do. Great trip for a rainy day and very reasonably priced.

Love the fact it's been modernised and is FREE! The kids thought there were great things inside, it's interactive and what is on show gets rotated so that it's not repetitive. A good way to pass an hour or so as it is quite compact, but a good experience x
