its a must see when in BelfastIt's part of the history and if you are of a certain age it will bring back memories of news stories from the time of the troubles It's a time of celebration there's no more trouble just pictures on a wall It's time to be grateful for what we have

Due to this being one of the places at the heart of the troubles this place is one of interest. Yes it is a little run down but I walked down this street and found the locals to one of friendly and welcoming. And were happy to tell you stories of the past. There are various ways of seeing this area so chose one you feel best to suit yourself.

This road has many interesting areas. My favourites are the murals. They depict the support for the Union and the loyalty to the crown. The people are very friendly and have a few stories to tell.

Visited on the open top bus. However missed a lot of the commentary due to the old loud Diesel engine overpowering the guides voice. Would definitely recommend the Belfast City tour bus however I would make sure I was on a newer quieter bus. The tour is very good value for money and the staff are very helpful. The ticket is valid for 2days

The Shankill Road is a lot shorter and smaller than it was but it is still worth visiting to get a flavour of what it was like during and before the recent troubles. This road is a tiny Working Class Protestant Loyalist (Ulster Scots) Area which is almost completely surrounded Roman Catholic Nationalists (Irish) Areas and it is worth having a guided tour round with some one who explains the Shankill rather than the "fare" nationalist's.

For all the history behind this road, it is worth visiting. Get an experienced tour guide who knows the history or was part of it.

Anyone interested in the history of The Troubles must visit his site. Seeing the actual site makes the hair on your neck stand up.

walked around the Shankhill road it is like walking back in time safe area to walk in, though we did feel out of place. The bigotry is in your face and a little scary how extreme some of it is, but does make you glad that you don't live somewhere where this bigotry exists, walking around the Falls road is similar but these areas represent a tiny area of the very friendly city of Belfast

Thoroughly enjoyed a discrete walk here. Felt no threats to my wellbeing and appreciated seeing the shrines, etc firsthand. Things are surely better than in the day, but it is saddening to see evidence of the deep divisions and the suffering. Must visit....

My recent visits, in specific terms, reveal this to be he heart of sectarian bigotry and a blight on the landscape. A hateful place, stuck in an unpleasant past. Worth avoiding, unless you enjoy this kind of thing.

A visit to Shankill Road is a trip through fascinating history (and modern life). We explored the area after being dropped off by a bus tour and enjoyed a look at the pure loyalism of the people that live here. The murals and dedications to the United Kingdom are impressive, and it is very clear who supports who in this area of town. While the recent historical past of the area is something to marvel at, I also couldn't help being humbled by the existing peace walls that are still in use, separating neighbourhoods.A worthy visit, even just a drive by, on your trip to Belfast. The stories of Shankill Road, both past and present, are just amazing..

Collected from hotel on time and with a very informative driver. We extended our tour by half an hour as we were so intrigued. Many murals all explained to us and back stories.

Steeped in history, we did a taxi tour of both the Shankill and the Falls Road, I would definately recommend the tour and was glad of a heat when we had finished!!!

We went on a black cab taxi tour. The guide was a amdman lol. we ended up in a pub and then in his house. His children were great and his wife treated us like royality. Highly reconmended the tours. William and his wife Sinead were great hosts and a bonus for all of Northern Ireland. The people we met in the local area were great.
