We agree that meal in our new restaurant is a must, we are so happy for our new kitchen and the high quality of our restaurant. While there, take a sneak peek in our newly opened floor downstairs. We are happy to hear you have enjoyed our castle!During our Christmas fair we only had to close one small room, this was due to some last rearrangements of our exhibitors. Most rooms of our castle is open for general public. Some rooms remains private and behind these doors we have conference rooms, storage rooms or offices. Our sparsely furnishings is a choice. We try to copy the 16th century as much as possible in our choice of interior. During this century there were very few movable furnishings since most of them were built in the walls. We have our eyes open for new objects, but they tend to be very expensive and rare.I will pass on your feedback to our restaurant.

Four towers topped with domes surround the castle while a large square middle-age tower rises in the center. Inside, don't miss the beautiful chapel. Do not forget to walk down the king's Eric XIV room with its murals, its moldings and the rich ornate decor.

Good tourist information (booklet), very nice and interest exhibits, without smells like a another castle. Realistic models of equipment.And free parking

This castle must be seen. From the city or from the surroundings as it is so nice. But also inside with many different rooms and good explanations of what the life was when it was occupied.

Enjoyed the guided tour. It is worth it to wait for the guide. Otherwise not much to see on your own

We saw this in the evening, so could not go inside fully. However, able to look around the grounds, read about it & take lots of pics. This really is in a lovely setting. Very important historically, also, with the Treaty of Kalmar being signed there in the late 15th Century! Well worth a look if you are in the area.

Great location - took plenty of photos inside and out - learned a bit about Swedish history - Very scenic spot as you walk to the Castle from Town.

Thank you for your comment! It's great to hear that you spend a whole day at our castle!Our cafe was closed this summer due to expansion and renovation. We are fully open again since 25th of august. If your family visit again in the future we can offer our homemade ice cream, warm lunch and fantastic bread.

Kalmar Castle is worth a visit, especially with kids. Lots of displays and actors in medieval costumes. The grounds are impressive, and the history of Kalmar and the castle are well illustrated. I wasn't aware of wars between Danes and Swedes uptil now. Admission fee is somewhat high (120 krones for an adult) but I hope they spend it on further restoration, so it's well spent I guess.
