We were on the river and ended up spending two evenings at Widow's. Had a very congenial time both nights talking about politics, taxes, the Irish economy, and how bars differ across the world (esp the US...) with all the gents sitting at the bar. Great craic and hospitality all around. Brendan told us about his experiences tending bar in New York. We watched rugby and horse racing and saw all who entered (German, French, Brits, and Yanks) being welcomed. We also enjoyed visiting with the young barman who had worked on Cape Cod (or some similar place). We did not get his name, but he was very pleasant to talk with.We turned up on a music night (something different almost every night). It was country night, and unfortunately, one of the band member's family was involved in a bad traffic accident and had to cancel last minute. Everyone in the bar expressed so much concern, it was clear that all at Widow's was part of a big extended family. We hope he is doing well, Brendan. We were sorry not to hear music, but I know we will be back to listen again on our next visit. Oh, and the beer and cider was very nice and well kept too!

A great pub. A great service always and a traditional feel. Irish music played regularly and a lovely fire burning. No better way to spend an evening

visited the Widows on a Friday night whilst staying across the street at the 7 Horseshoes - we asked if it would be possible to watch the rugby which was not a problem, Brendan also sorted out those in our party who required it access to the wifi network. All-in-all a plesant visit with good beer and friendly service.

The Widows Bar is an old world establishment which has excellent traditional music nights with session musicians and regular band nights. When you enter the bar your welcomed by a warm and friendly atmosphere. The bar owner Brendan is a friendly and jovial host who takes time to welcome all visitors to his bar. It is a joy to sit by the open fire listening to the traditional music whilst downing a lovely pint of the black stuff. True bliss. Well worth a visit
