This is a "classic" Riviera walk. The path is concrete for most of the way and the walking easy, although there are quite a few steps. For those with vertigo there is a shortish stretch along a steel walkway which runs alongside the railway line. This is not dangerous but I imagine would be scary for those afraid of heights as you are perched high above the sea and can see it through all the holes in the walkway! None of the guidebooks seem to mention this. The views, especially on the Menton side towards Italy and the Alpes Maritimes, are lovely. The other side of the headland the view is dominated by the skyline of Monaco-Monte Carlo, impressive but not beautiful in my opinion. Leaving the path at either Dragonnière or Massolin (to get back to the main Menton-Roquebrune road) also involves a pretty steep climb.I know this sounds dreadfully pretentious but I much prefer the headland walk around Cap Ferrat a bit further down the coast - the path is less concrete and the coast a little "wilder".

Whilst staying on the west side of Menton for three weeks we typically chose to walk to neighbouring Cap Martin. It is a far less stressful walk as there are fewer tourists to navigate. The views of the mountains in the background and the sea along the walk are spectacular. There are several places along the route to rest and to take in the scenery. It's about a 1.5 hour round trip from the west side of Menton to the point. If you decide to walk all the way to Monaco that would be a walk that you will not forget soon. Stunning would sum it up. I'm sure that by the time you reach Monaco you will be beat. No issues, take the bus back from a Monaco for 1€. You can't beat that.

I started this walk from Roquebrune station. At first the path is secluded and the sea can only be glimpsed below through the trees. However, it soon opens up to give great views across the bay to Monaco. At one point the path runs along a sort of steel bridge or shelf fixed to the railway embankment and high above the sea. For me the walk ended at Sir Winston Churchill Way (views towards Menton). I then walked along the Promenade du Cap and caught the train back at Carnoles station.

Ouch my feet.We have done this before years ago in the pouring rain and thoroughly enjoyed it. This time the trail is easier, good because we are much older and chubbier!Anyway we wandered off thinking we would only go a little way..but what the heck, we did the lot in very hot weather. That made it a bit tough in parts but much easier than our previous trip.I don't think swimming of the rocks is the brightest of ideas. There are a good few benches and also places which are numbered in case you need to call for help. So pretty good, better than before but not submerged in health and safety.A very mean tip!!! Say bonjour to the passing joggers and they are, like most much maligned French people, incredibly polite, so with their last gasp of breath, they bonjour back!And the views...everyones dream of the riviera. Do try it.

The dog poo and graffiti issues that were such a detraction for another poster made us hesitate taking this walk .Towards the end of our month long stay in Menton, we knew we must at least give it a try.Such stunning views! we took hundreds of pictures and it wasn't even a particularly clear day.The wild flowers were blooming everywhere.Lots of benches to stop and rest.Not many exit points and although we almost made it into Monaco, we cut off a bit short because we were done in and it was getting late.It's an easy walk however.One wonders about half-filled and half-empty glasses.Make your own assessment and don't be put off by previous opinions.It is a must.

A 'not to be missed' walk along the edge of the Med. from Menton to Monaco. Good exercise for walkers and joggers, involving a lot of steps, but not too difficult. On calm days you can swim off the rocks en route. Plenty of benches to stop for a picnic, too. Good 1 Euro bus service from Monaco to Menton so you can just walk one way if you wish.

Having read the last review we did question our plan to walk from Menton to Monaco however we were so glad we did the walk. We picked up some lunch and plenty of water as it was hot the day we walked, and headed around the beach to the official start of the Promenade at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The walk was easy, the views to Monaco were brilliant and the water was so crystal clear and inviting it took all our will power, and the warning signs to not go for a dip. Yes there was graffiti along the way, and yes you did walk along the train tracks for a while, but our focus was on the views of the magnificent coastline. We found a lovely shady picnic spot to have our lunch before we continued on. The walk from Menton to the Monte Carlo casino is approx. 12km and our children (ages 9 & 11) did it with ease. The total walk took us about 4-4.5hours with stops for gelato in Roquebrune-Cap Martin, lunch and photos.

Walked the Promenade first from Roquebrune to Italy and found it a very pleasant walk along the sea front....just that....however when we did the route from Roquebrune to Monaco apart from a short dramatic and lovely section the rest of the walk only gave short glimpses of the sea and the amount of graffiti and dog mess was depressing. So grim that we decided to take the train back to Roquebrune from Monaco and felt very disappointed as the walk was one of the things we had been looking forward to on our holiday. Luckily nothing else disappointed and we just loved this area of the Cote d'azur.

You do not need to be a super athlete to do this walk. You will have a nice view over the sea but do not forget to look the nature around. Take a break in the park of olive trees "Dragonnière Parc Cap Martin." that you can reach by " le sentier de la dragonnière" If you want to enlarge the walk take the path of Massolin and climb up to the old village. Take a small detour to the cemetery to see the grave of Le Corbusier and descend past olive millennium. You can also shorter and relax in the park of olive trees "Dragonnière Parc Cap Martin."

Very beautiful nature landscapes, fantastic view to the Monaco, paves in rocks, almost emty paths, crystal water.

Most has been said here. We walked from ventral Menton into Monaco in 9 Kim's and about 2 hours. It is an easy hike with several sets of stairs.Tip - if you are driving, try the east end at the southern tip of rue Winston Churchill. There is a small parking area.

A wonderful walk around Cap-Martin. A must if you are in or near the Menton area. The walk is fairly easy and flat with a few steps inbetween. The view is spectacular! There are several places along the path where you can stop for a picnic or sunbathing - however, bathing here is not allowed, since the cliffs make it too dangerous.

Really a nice walk along the coast. Walked a few times, also two years ago during the summer when it was quite hot. A great stop (from Menton) is Roquebrune and walking up to the village above for a lunch. Also, sandwiches in the backpack for lunch are recommended.
