Aix, everyone seems to rave about it and for good reason, as we toured the old town its charm just is infectious!

Aix has many "place" or plazas around the old town. Two situated near each other close to the Hotel de Ville ( city hall) are the home of a farmers market with veggies, fruit, cheese, and meats. The Second just a short block away is the home of a great flower market. We were there for Christmas, and saw the markets over several days. Not certain of the schedule in non holiday times. One of our favourite vendors is still there selling lavender products. This lady in not a young person, we met her the first time four years ago, and she is still there going strong, great personality, and bright. We look forward to our next visit and the chance to relax and walk around the town, exploring and discovering new dining establishments.

Rent a car, book at least one night and enjoy the smells and ambiance of Aix. Strolling through the narrow streets, buying in the local markets, practicing your french and smelling the lavender are some of the delights of this visit.

The ancient city streets of Aix are perhaps the most picturesque in Europe. Well worth repeated visits. Sit at a cafe and have a long lunch with wine, then step out into the lovely night scene and have some glace, you will not forget it!

Streets, Food, People. Public Transport is very interesting for this kind of city. Historic part is very great and everything clean and good explanation through signs.

Nice to walk around, we saw the old streets and the market under the rain but it was nice anyway. Finally some French streets without too many cars!!And the Provence style and fountains...

We had visited Aix-en-Provence for only 3 days in 2000 and stayed longer, a whole week, this time because we had such a great time at the Saturday market. This time, we were able to attend the markets on Sat, Tues, and Thurs. My best friend and I were able to buy clothes that we love at good prices...you just have to try them on over whatever you are wearing because there are no dressing rooms. Also picked up small gifts for family members. The array of food and flowers is to die for. My husband practically drools at the memories of fresh produce available there...some things we had never even seen before. A trip to old Aix is not complete without a visit to at least one outdoor market.

busy with shoppers during the daytime, busy with students and entertainment at night. A lively neighborhood!

Aix is my favorite city in France. If you are nearby in Provence, go to the Vieil Aix for at least a day or two.

Each corner presents new fountain, new attraction. You can walk easily all places in the old town.Or use the local eco-bus, tiny electric transportation. There are nice bakeries, restaurants, coffee shops and some of the museum and churches. Be prepared to take many shots with your camera!

Old Town in Aix, is a must see when in Provence. The trees that act like canopies on the narrow cobble stoned streets make for a refreshing change from the Southern France heat. Each street interlinked with the other takes you on a adventure on scences. From the freshly baked french bread, the lavender and fresh fruit stores to the stunning architecture of each historic building. This place is a true wanders dream and getting lost and stumbling across a charming little cafe for a refreshing drink made for a perfect day in Aix en Provence.

Aix is split by a main road into the 'old' part and newer 'old' part. Old Aix is a lovely confusion of winding side streets, with tall building and open squares. Well worth a slow amble and stop for coffee or drinks. Lots and lots of eateries of every sort.

We spent hours wandering the old town, discovering streets we had not yet seen 5 days into our stay in Aix. A shoppers paradise by day, with diners and bar hoppers spilling out onto the streets at night. Spend some time wandering aimlessly and getting lost in the magic of Vieil Aix

This is a beautiful little city to visit in the south of France. It is clean, tidy easily accessible by car,bus or train. We went with Provence connection and walked all around the old city where we were shown all the little things like the speciality foods and markets, buildings, churches and fountains. Arts and paintings from Cezanne. All of it well worth a visit.

The huge clock, what looked like a busy town square in the morning, and the lovely people milling about...this place was eye candy from every way that I turned. I loved it.
