This castle is located just outside Pardubice and has a commanding setting ontop of a hill. There is an informal car park at the bottom. Be warned there is no signage from the car park directing you to the castle but you follow the main road up to it.It was a solid twenty minute walk up hill. Along the way we had some developing views under cloudy skies of the surrounding countryside. Then above us the castle started to open up. It was quite impressively set on top of the hill. We passed a deep well on the way before entering under the barbican and getting our tickets. The tour was fully unguided which was our style of tour and got an English pamphlet. Alas it only talked about the history and very little about the contents of the rooms. The first room was the knight's hall which was a tremendous room with a vaulted ceiling and contained some replica weapons. We then moved upstairs to the arsenal and the hunting trophy room. From here we had some nice views out over the forested hills. There was an unusual room which had a large historical map on the floor showing a pond system no longer in use which you had to walk on in slippers. Then we climbed several levels of the main tower. The lowest level was barren and rough cut and numerous birds were nesting in the crevices. The ravens gave the castle a feeling of foreboding. There were several models of the castle of how it looked over time before we reached the top and some gloomy views. There is also a very modest collection of torture implements in the cellars. Overall a nice and authentic visit.

I visited this Castle in May 2014 and as there were just 3 direct buses during the week I had to go with bus to Stare Hradiste and then by foot & on the road (way visible on attached map - also with correct location of the castle). It was an 1 hour of brisk walk, 5 minutes before I reached the Castle I was going around "Pernikova chaloupka" - stop is appropriate more likely for kids. The Castle itself offers different exhibitions, remarkable is large floor map of pernstejn ponds. From the tower is a nice view of the surrounding area.
