Chiesa di san Pietro is another lovely church in this beautiful boroque town, it is situated in the lower town but is also a must see when in Modica.

The church St Peidro was a lovely quiet space to sit and think after climbing a short set of steps, at the same time I could hear young people sitting on the steps outside talking and laughing like young people anywhere.

Keep in mind that in Modica, there are hundreds of churches and the top one is St. Giorgio, and running a close second is St. Pietro. Both a must visit.

Initially built in the 14th century and then rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake. Whereas San Giorgio Cathedral was for the Nobles the San Pietro was for the common man. It is slightly smaller, but no less beautiful. San Pietro is the main church in Modica Bassa, the "lower" part of the town, is equal in importance to Cathedral of St.George, and is pure Sicilian Baroque.

Brilliant, on a smaller scale to St Peter's in Rome, well patronized by the locals and a gorgeous landmark

this was the best cathedral we saw in sicily, even better then Noto cathedral. 12 statues of apostols are on the main stairs, the inside is rich and with many frescoed and painted windows.excellent.

After traveling for a few weeks you start to become complacent in regard to the quality of churches. You need to keep on open view. The structure is just as impressive as many other, much older though, but just lacked the wow factor, but if we had seen this first then it no doubt would have impressed us more. sorry

thuis cathedral is very big, with many statues over the stairs in front of the main entrance.Inside is full of paintings ,colored windows, and altars are impressive.Very good experience.

Although I'm not a big baroque architecture fan, this cathedral is worth a look. The evening light on the facade is stunning - all golden coloured stone. The inside is interesting too.

Located on Corso Umberto I, this church does not have the same lofty location as Chiesa di San Giorgio, but the statues flanking the few steps in front of the church do give the entrance a somewhat grand feel.
