This is a must do. The mosaics in the Capella are extraordinary and beautiful. We hired the audio headsets and would highly recommend their use as they give excellent descriptions of the history and the illustrations - there is otherwise little explanation in English.

One of the most beautiful example of Arabian et Normanish Style in the whole islandGo and visit, I suggest to avoid the August month, when possible. too much people

Most part of the palace is closed and there is only the Sicilian Regional Assembly room worth to be seen. Apart from that the Palatine Chapel is a true wonder and rewards the price of the remaining of the Palace visit.

The Palatine Chapel was so beautiful. We bought the audio guide and enjoyed listening to all of the recordings about the chapel. Also enjoyed taking numerous pics. We were fortunate to be there in February - there weren't very many people in the chapel with us so we could have a close look at everything. After seeing this first, the apartments were a bit of a let down - and some sections were closed for renovation. It was a bit expensive for entry with the audio - in the mid 30 euros.

If you only have time for one visit, go here. The chapel was simply stunning. Take an audio guide and spend as much time as possible looking and listening, then look again. I believe it is busy in high season but in January it was almost deserted. We visited twice, once on a day that included the Royal Palaces being open. This is a rather difficult part of the visit. A notice outside tells you the days of that week when the Royal palace is open to view, you may be lucky ..... or not. The palaces and parliament room is worth seeing, especially Roger's room, bit the highlight, open daily, is definitely the Palantine Chapel

The Capella Palatina is the most beautiful church I've ever visit, with perhaps the exception of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. The mosaic work in it is incredible! Breath-taking in its beautiful. I visited in February when it wasn't busy, so could take my time and enjoy the incomparable craftsmanship of the place. Truly the most magnificent 12th century mosaics on the planet, I think. The cathedral is relatively small and won't take long to see. The Palazzo is now the site of Sicily's parliament, so depending on the activity there, you may or may not see much of it. There are several rooms well worth visiting, one again with amazing mosaics. So be sure you don't miss this when in Palermo.

The chappella Palatinna is part of the Royale Palace. The opulence yet sprout all stories through this mosaic holy place are truly breathtaking. The palace was designed and built by Arabs, Romans, Greeks at a time when they were usually at war. Their collaboration and the integrations of four religious doctrines was a testament to the peaceful Nomrandy rule. When you go to see this pay the extra euros and rent the audio guide. The is just too much detail in the chapel for a novice to take it all in. From the lighting to the storytelling in art to the materials used and the vaulted ceiling.with Arabic geometric designs.

Be sure to visit the Cappella Palatina.. really breathtaking.. you could stare at that for hours! Also the Gardens in front of the Palace are pretty nice!

The truly breathtaking mosaics are unforgettable. The best craftsmen, Byzantine Greek and Arab, were employed for the high decoration that we are privileged to gaze at today. The mosaics related religious teaching to illiterate penitents in a very powerful manner, as well as displaying and emphasising the absolute powers of the rulers. The vista along the central nave is wonderful, with the sweeping arches covered in glorious mosaic. Christ Pantocrator is depicted against a golden background. The figure is shown in typical pose with the right hand raised and a holy book in the left. The image of Chirst being baptised shows in white mosaic the ripple effect of the water flowing over his body. Wondrous. The ceiling is astonishing. Made from cedar wood it has stalactite style decorative features. The floor and walls have gorgeous ornate stonework.
