Before we visited Umbria, I thought that we would eat lots and lots of olives because they grow so many there. At Montioni, we learned that most olives are actually pressed for olive oil. Paolo showed us the operation from start to finish and explained the various kinds and qualities of olive oils. It was interesting, personal and informative. Montioni also has a vineyard with some very nice wines. Following the tour of the 2 operations, we had a wine tasting with delicious local cheeses, meats and bread. This tour was a real treat.

Paulo was so gracious to take my husband and I on a private tour of his olive oil cold press and his wine making operation. He was very through in his explanations and answered all our questions. After the tour we where sat down to a 5 course meal. I've never had a 5 course meal before!!! How do people eat so much food?? However, it gave us an opportunity to taste his wine with many types of food. The wine, and food, were spectacular. If you are in the area you must make a point to stop in and meet Paulo and his family. You will be like us; shipping lots of wine home. Enjoy!!

Such a wonderful place to visit!! Traveled with my parents and 2 daughters and they were incredibly accommodating. Paolo is an extremely welcoming and knowledgeable owner. He spent exclusive time with our family explaining every detail of the olive oil and cantina process. We could not have loved it more! The oil, wine and food were delicious and Paolo made us truly feel like part of the family. Thank you for an incredible experience!

I visited Paolo Montioni's Winery in Montefalco yesterday with two American couples who were vacationing in the region. We arrived around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and were treated to a tour of his small family establishment followed by a tasting paired with a generous portion of typical local foods (bruschetta, various meats and cheeses). Everything was delicious, his wines are exceptional (only sold there or through export distributors outside Italy) and his hospitality was remarkable. Do not visit Montefalco in the heart of Sagrantino territory without a stop at Montioni!

We highly recommend visiting Montioni's Oil Mill & Winery for a wine and olive oil tasting. The atmosphere was welcoming, the tour was very interesting and the wine, olive oil and lunch that we had were all delicious! You won't be disappointed!

Small family winery in the heart of Umbria. Get the tour plus tasting and snacks. No better way to spend an afternoon.

Paolo gave the four of us a private, fun and interactive tour of his winery and bio green olive oil production. After the tour we feasted on an amazing regional food plate while tasting his incredible wines. We highly recommend a visit to Montioni in Montefalco.

Our family had a lovely time listening to the very well informed tour of the olive oil production at Montioni. Both the wine and oil we tasted were delicious and we would highly recommend both the tour and wthe oil and wine.

I recently brought a group of women to Montioni and it blew away our expectations. We were able to purchase an affordable package for a 5 course (yes I said FIVE) lunch with wine accompanying each course. It was incredible and some of the best food we had all week. Paolo took such great care of us. After the lunch we got a tour of the vineyard and oil mill that was fun and informative.I can not recommend this place enough and can't wait to bring my group again next year.Thank you so, so much Paolo!

We spent 2 weeks in Italy and this was by far one of our greatest experiences and it was just a few miles from the Time Share we stayed at in Assisi. Paulo and his mother were most cordial and from the introduction of their first wine with appetizers to the excellent meal we had was by far superior to any other we had in Italy. After the never ending courses of food Paulo took us on a very rewarding tour of his winery and his olive oil production. This adventure started around noon and didn't end until around 5:30. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Assisi area. We will cherish the time we spent there forever, and hope to return again one day.

If you're anywhere near Montioni… visit Paolo and his team and you will love it! Guaranteed.I was there as part of a group of women, we enjoyed a 5 course lunch that was beyond anything I could have expected. An appetizer, 2 pasta courses, a meat course and a dessert… all paired with Montionis special wines. The most special of which is their Sagrantino wine… native to the Montefalco region only! Absolutely the best red wine I've ever had in my life. Be sure you try it when you visit (and buy some to take home!) You can see the pride in Paolos eyes when he tells you about it as well.Paolo is a wonderful business owner and it's very evident how passionate he is about his winery and olive oil mill. Listening to him tell us about each wine during lunch and then the tour of the mill was great! He was so charismatic while he explained everything so clearly and also made sure we all understood as well… it was refreshing to have a tour that did not gloss over everything and push us out the door. It was quite the opposite… Paolo took his time, lunch was at a perfect pace and the wine, heavenly. It's easy to tell that Paolo has everything in hand at Montioni, you can be very certain that all aspect of your visit, and any purchases you make are well taken care of.Thank you Paolo and everyone at Montioni!Grazie Mille, hope to visit again one day :)

We visited Montioni earlier this week and although we had a lovely lunch and discussions with Paolo, who is (as per previous reviews) very passionate and genuine about his family-grown wines, in general we felt surprised as we were expecting the lunch & wine tasting to be on the same property as the vineyard (e.g. within the same wine estate), however Montioni is a small private wine manufacturer (set in a modern suburban residential area, with vats and barrels in Paolo's cellar) with its vineyards completely separate - a short drive away outside Montefalco town. I personally felt that the experience was quite expensive (for what it was), at Euro 50 per person for a private lunch and wine tasting of 3 wines. The wines themselves are great (we bought some bottles and olive oil), but we would have preferred to know about this setup before visiting Montioni and would definitely investigate this before carrying out any future wine tastings in other regions.

Having twice visited the Montefalco region and sampled numerous wines, my family eventually got round to embarking on a wine and olive oil tour. Based on the TripAdvisor reviews, we chose Montioni and certainly weren't disappointed! We contacted Paolo by email and chose the free wine and olive oil tour and tasting option. The other options available were the tour and tasting plus tasting of regional foods (€15 pp) and a tasting plus home cooked lunch. Paolo gave us a fantastic, in depth tour of his production areas and was very concerned to make sure we understood all the details about how the wine and oil was made. The tasting itself was very generous and the products were gorgeous (in particular the Sagrantino, of course, but the Montefalco Rosso was also splendid, in particular considering its price!) and reasonably priced- we bought as much as we could fit in our suitcases to take away! All of this took place in a beautiful (and extremely clean) building, with a specially adapted tasting area. Very much recommended.

I visited Montioni with a group of 12 other women for a 5 course meal and wine tasting, followed by tour. The food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and Paolo himself (the owner) was our Master of Ceremonies explaining every detail about each wine in between courses. He was charming, patient, and an excellent host with so much attention to detail. The wines were, of course, also excellent. After our meal, Paolo showed us how he makes his wine and olive oil (which was also to die for!). I would definitely come back - the wines of this region are exceptional and Montioni is by far the best in the area for a visit. Highly recommend!

We did a wine tour at Montioni in August 2014 and absolutely loved it! Having visited a number of vineyards across the Umbria and Tuscany regions, this was one of our favourites and this is largely due to the amazing amount of effort put in by Paolo (our host). I reserved in advance by email for a group of 4. The booking process was very efficient and quick. We were given the option of the tour followed by lunch or lunch followed by the tour. The lunch was delicious – full of local, seasonal specialities and very generous in terms of portions (I would highly recommend skipping a meal before coming!). Paolo suggested which wines to have with which foods which all worked really well. We were not rushed at all during lunch which made the experience very relaxing for us. The tour itself then took around 45mins and the production process was explained clearly to us in English. If you are visiting the area, I would highly recommend taking time to visit Montioni. Looking back at our trip, this was one of the highlights for us!
