Juxtaposed with the spare Romanesque lines of the Speyer Dom, coming back to the opulent Baroque was like savoring fancy chocolates after enjoying a great steak. In fact, that's a great way to visit -- Dom first, other churches thereafter. Check the hours before you go: we had to return on a Wednesday to gain admittance to this one and the others.

This was a very small church compared to the others we had been in, but it was very ornately decorated for a Lutheran church from the 18th century.

This church, tucked on an Altstadt side street, has a few unusual features. Several front pews have "double-opposed" pews, allowing people to sit facing the altar; and then switch sides to listen to the minister speaking from a centrally-located pulpit. The wooden altar is beautifully carved in Baroque style, highlighted with paint and gilt. The carved organ case high above the altar is also quite nice. Ironically, the columns are painted in a crude, ersatz "marble" pattern -- certainly not to the high artistic standards of the carving! Eine mit Holz ausgekleidete Barockkirche, das ist wohl eher selten. Der Bilderschmuck wirkt gar nicht überladen, sondern man fühlt sich geborgen, in einer warmen Atmosphäre. Wir durften sogar an einem Gottesdienst teilnehmen, in dem drei Kinder getauft wurden. Ein einmaliges Erlebnis!

Die Dreifaltigkeitskirche ist ein ganz besonderes Juwel, denn es gibt nur noch ganz wenige solche Holz-Innenausbauten auf der Welt erhalten. Es finden sich Wandmalereine und eine ganz besondere Orgel mit Blickfang. Konzerte finden dort statt, die man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte.Das Gotteshaus ist eine evangelische Kirche, es finden ganz normale Gottesdienste statt und auch eben Kulturveranstaltungen.Die Orgelkonzerte und Oratorien dort liebe ich ganz besonders, die Akustik ist gut und man ist mitten drin. Eine wirkliche Shenswürdigkeit für einen Speyer-Besuch! Wenn das Haus zugeschlossen sein sollte,- trotzddem kann man durch die gläserne Eingangstüre einen Blick ins Innere erhaschen.
