We had found an all English brochure for this attraction at our local tourist booth so we decided to take our boys (5&9). Upon arrival, the cashier tried to charge us full price for 4 people (50.80 euro) when they offer a family rate for 45 euro (still a bit over priced for ~1 hour walk through). All information on the prices were in German so maybe the cashier assumed she would get away with over charging us. We mentioned the family pass then she changed it to 45 euro. If we hadn't said anything or noticed that they have a family rate we would have been over charged due to the admission fees only being in German. The English brochure we had picked up said "Americans Welcome" which I feel now was deceptive advertising as all attractions are in German language only. Luckily my husband and I have been to many reptile museums and could translate for our boys. The museum provides walk through guides that would bring the animals out of the cages, talk about them (again in German only) and did feedings. Per the English brochure, the guests would be able to touch the reptiles. My 5 yr old son tried to put his hands out so he could get sprayed to be able to touch a lizard and he was not allowed (note: everyone else in the group touched the lizard). The guide said something in German and when we spoke in English he didn't provide any translation and just ignored us and went on to the next exhibit. Our family had been given the impression that Americans are NOT welcome. My 5 year was very sad and disappointed when we left. An hour after we got back home our son asked us why "he" couldn't touch any of the animals as it was still on his mind. We had a terrible experience/service going to this attraction and do NOT recommend this place for American families.

My two boys (5 and 2) loved this place. There were so many reptiles. The hit was the three huge boa constrictors. We were actually there long enough to watch one completely shed his skin. The habitats are very well kept and are like their original habitats so the reptiles move around a lot. They have a snack bar with full food and there are animals all around so you can enjoy a meal and still watch the animals. There is also an outdoor play area with two slides, a swing, and electronic excavator. There are also animals outside. The only thing I have to complain about is the price. One adult and one 5 year old was 25 Euro. Yikes. We went on a Wednesday afternoon.

Perhaps giving a place a 1* review when I haven't actually been is unfair but... Reptilium had a stand at the Reisemarkt holiday fair in Mannheim. Two young girls were there, one with a snake and one with a lizard I don't know the name of. You could have your photo taken with them for a price and both were enthusiastically letting people stroke the reptiles. When I asked where the lizard liked being stroked best I was told they don't like being handled at all. They just put up with it they didn't like it at AT ALL. They're used to being handled by their trainers but do not like others doing it.So I didn't stroke them. And I won't be going somewhere that makes the animals go through something they actively dislike in the name of publicity.

or hate it, depending on if they like snakes and all kinds of reptilians. During the visit you can enjoy a drink at the bar and wait for the kids....but you would miss some very interesting animals you will normally never see :-)
