Due to the great fire in 1692 these "salt cabinets" were built at this location in 1696. Already 15th century the salt-Regalia (salt for rights) transferred to amt cities, City Council and were given the monopoly in regard of the salt trade. The salt-Fund was a completely independent branch of the municipal administration and for the city of great importance and significant financial profit. The salt came from Bavaria and Austria as barter goods against wine from Württemberg.
