It isn't easy to find this church amid twists and turns of the alleys and streets near the busy town center. Not far from Augsburg's 80 years farmer's market Erlebnis Stadtmarkt you will find a rather plain looking white walled structure with Medieval double bronze doors and a plaque identifies Ev.-Luth. Kirche St. Anna. Inside of the complex there are museum section and church section. In the museum section there are displays of Luther's quotes, his evangelical journeys to Reformation and his time here facing the interrogations by Cardinal Cajetan in Oct.1518. When I visited the museum, service was being held in the sanctuary below. I tried to be quiet while walking through the museum. After the service was over I visited the church section. I was amazed by the serene and harmony atmosphere in the sanctuary. This was originally a monastery, converted to Luther church in 1545. The interior of the church is decorated with Baroque and Rococo stucco work, elaborate wooden pulpits and ornate organ piece. Germany's first high Renaissance architecture of Catholic faith Fugger Chapel is in the west apse. The chapel was funded by Urlich Fugger and his brother Jakob the Rich in 1509. The Chapel is the burial place for Jakob the Rich and his brothers Ulrich. Sanctuary also holds several art works by Germany's famous painters such as Albrecht Dürer; master craftermen and organ builder. If you are following the footprints of Luther's reformation journeys, here is the place for you.

Despite being both a history and theology nerd, I stumbled upon St. Anne's, trying to get out of the rain. The plaque of Martin Luther outside drew me in, and first I explored the little reformation museum upstairs (explanations given in both German and English). Then I took in the rest of the church, which is just beautiful. No one else was there at the time, and it was so quiet and peaceful, yet the church is still used -- fresh flowers, and the hangings corresponded to the colors of the church calendar. It was just lovely.

St Anne's Church apart from being a place of worship it is a place of history and beauty. The ornate timber work, fresco's and stained glass are beautiful. When you enter the church you get a feeling of peace and serenity. Whilst taking photographs the church was permitted we felt we should not, for the church had an impact on us such. The church at one time was an old Carmelite Monastery. There is also a Martin Luther museum within the church surrounds. No matter what your religion is, the church is well worth visiting for its history and unique architecture, internally as well as externally.

We attended Palm Sunday Mass at this church. It is much more austere than the other churches in Augsberg, but definitely worth a quick visit.

Luther's apartment has now been converted to a museum, with appropriate displays. The Cranach paintings and the Lutherstiege (Luther's Stairway) and the beauty of this old Carmelite Monastery church make it worth the visit whether you are Lutheran or Protestant or Catholic. It should not be missed..

Wonderful church and a fitting location on one of the most amazing streets in Germany, Maximillianstrasse

Definitely have a look - it's white-on-white-on-white and very calming and peaceful to be there. There's also a small but interesting Martin Luther museum/exhibit within the walls.

The church is located in the center of the city and surrounded by many small and old houses. From the out side We will only see "just another Rococo style church" since so many church in this style is been build in this region / Bavaria. But when we are in the interior of the church which is also monastery where Martin Luther stayed when he was visiting Augsburg for meeting Cardinal Cajetan who want him to submit for the pope,We realized is not only Rococo style but also Baroque and the first style of Renaissance. In the exhibition chamber they really do good with how to present the history with contemporary modern art installation. This Church is worth visiting if you are following the romantic strasse, Augsburg is very important place to be. don't forget to pass Stadt Market ! they have so nice bread and cake and also seasonal fruit and vegetables !

This is one of the most beautiful churches in town...and Augsburg has some of the most beautiful churches in Bavaria, so that's saying a lot. The Fugger money that went into their chapel really made this one of the best. It was renovated in the last few years and is now looking its best!
