the 11th century architecture that can be visited, is spread around the peninsula. Athanitos church & Tower appear to be in reasonably good condition considering little evidence of work on the towers themselves.

It's a landmark of Nea Fokea. Tower from the 15th century dominates over the small harbour. It's permanently closed as it's generally in poor condition and would be a threat to visitors. Anyway it's good to climb the hill and take a look to the sea and harbour.

Absolutely beautiful setting, unfortunately it was closed when we went. But got some fab pictures & it was nice & quiet!

A very interesting place - the tower which could be seen from outside and the church which can be entered. Its a very small church, very intimate and the acoustics is fantastic.

Excellent views of the sea and sunset. Also the location for the Sani festival and the archery activity.

This tower is something amazing. In the first "foot" in chalkidiki with village Athitos worth a visit.Go there if you can in the sunset hour.

Really interesting experience, not sure why some reviews say there is not information as you are provided with a FREE recorded tour guide in the language of your choice which takes you round various stations from the towers origins to the present day. There are numbered stopping points with visuals on screens so you can see the stages of it's history and the people and events along the way.Friendly and helpful staff. Absolutely worth a visit!

Like so much on Kassandra this is an opportunity missed in terms of tourism. Yet again there was rubbish dotted round and about and nothing to explain the historical and social context of this tower. It's a shame that there is little on this peninsula that displays to visitors pride in local life and history. This is so unlike other Greek destinations we have visited over the years.

We visited this tower by chance 2 years ago, I still keep those photos on my desktop, perfect view, the best sunset ever!

i have been coming to halkidiki since i was 18months, and the byzantine tower is something that i think i will remember for a long, long time. The sunset is so, so beautiful against the sound of the crickets and the laughter from the nearby restaurants. if youre looking for a non toursist place, nea fokea is definitely the place to come. Everyone is incredibly kind hearted and there are no ignorant british people in sight!! Ελενι.

An eye-catching attraction right on the main road of this village. It is very scenic itself but also offers great views out to sea and the surrounding area, as it is on top of a hill. The site itself is not in a very good condition and there is no information on what it is you are visiting. A mere sign explaining the site would make a big difference and add to the "romantic" atmosphere. We were lucky enough to chat to a local who was visiting at the same time and gave us some information: this was a lighthouse built in the beginning of the 16th century; there used to be many more buildings on the hill of a monastic nature and owned by the Athos monastic community; the site was donated by the monks to the incoming refugees during the exchange of population between Greece and Turkey in the beginning of the 20th century. The refugees dismantled most of the medieval buildings to use as building material for their own new homes that they so much needed. There is a "holy well" of St Paul right across the street that is somehow connected to this site. Enjoy!

We were surprise by the contrast, when you climb to the tower you will see that nobody really care about it. Dirty and badly managed site. But the view to the sea is fantastic. It is the highest point at the resort and have 360 panoramic view.

Yet when i visited Nea Fokea i knew nothing about the history of this tower.Though it has a nice view in the morning lights =)Nice drop in while travelling by car, and there's a beach nearby where you can freshen yourself up in hot day.
