Best was a replica of a Greek explorers ship, right out of ancient Greece. Next a battlle ship with interesting collection giving one a good look of life at sea.

Piraeus being the biggest harbour of the Mediterranean - what more natural to do than visit the Nautical Museum? We found it after a little bit of struggle. We were the only visitor this morning and indeed found a display of a lot different ships - older and less old. But it was very much up to what you could get out of it rather than anything else. After we walked around for 15-20 minutes we were done and decided to move on. Not a priority - even if you have spare time in Piraeus.

Do visit this nautical museum, covers local and Greek nautical history from earliest to present. Some shipwreck artifacts as well. Ancient anchors, old glass lighthouse, and check out the ultra rich Greek yachts just across park, views there lovely.

Having enjoyed the maritime museums at Falmouth and Greenwich I was drawn in here and not remotely disappointed. Very different from the British or French (eg Brest) approach but still well done. Go to the website to get the flavour but if you have any interest in the sea and seafarers then this place is easily worth an hour or two.

Having toured ruins for two weeks with little under 2,000 years old, we were looking for something a little more recent. Imagine our shock when the entrance dealt with triremes and amphoras! This, however, was the start of a journey through nautical history almost to the present day. A mixture of models, artefacts from wars, personal items from naval commanders and bric a brac inside, supplemented by a large range of naval guns outside. You can see little design or forethought in this collection and, to me, this was its charm. Once a tour group had gone their way, we had the museum to ourselves to pick and choose what we would look at. I noticed an earlier comment about the high entry fee - I find it difficult to object to 2 Euros (yes - two!), which included an informative booklet in English and Greek.

Greece's history in the seas from b.c. cenuries to nowdays concentrated in one museum. Models of anciente triremes to first ocean liners, nautical instruments and many seascape paintings of famus Greeks artists. Worth to see!

This museum has a very nice exterior appearance from a distance, but as you get close up the construction is fairly crude. The holdings consist mainly of paintings, photographs, etc., and ship models--few of which are ancient. For some reason they have a no photography policy--which is incomprehensible given the mediocrity of the holdings and the banality of their presentation.I went out of my way to find it and visit it. I won't return.

We had outstanding days in Athens. This was the first museum we had ever taken in there. A little bit overpriced. But, for making sure, still worth it to learn about a part of history.

Its from there all begins and is still gooing on. Greeks and the sea is the same. Sure you dont meet any from the ship Argo or any Argonauts, but you can feel that they was there just before you came, but left for a new journey to the Hellesponten.

very limited display overpriced entry, localised displays in the main we expected much better regarding the importance of the port of Athens and the great maritime tradition of Greece
