Gorgeous building, great setting and amazing icons in it. Everyone in Monemvasia should visit and read more about it!

It is not the size, nor the ornamental style or the wealth but rather the historical imprint that appeals to the place apart from its plain but capturing beauty and the right positioning of the building. Unique hagiography of Christ Bridegroom pulled to His Martyrdom.

Built in the main square of the castle. Very nice interior and one of the sights to see when you visit the castle of Monemvasia. Also interesting to read the history of the church

Liked the view out of the church as it is in the middle of the castle, from there you can see the Aegean sea and the upper city

One of Monemvasia's nicest squares, offering a beautiful view on the walls and sea. The square is nice and peaceful, when empty, else usually too crowded. The church itself is often closed, if you enter, there is not much to see though.

The interior of the church is not at all interesting -- and not air conditioned when we went in the summer, so it was very hot. One room in the back (with a cracked painting) had AC, but there was no information about the painting provided.

It seems to be very beautiful, but we could just look inside while they were preparing a wedding; as the may church in the "Kastro", it is a pity that they do not propose a Sunday service; it would be an opportunity to discover the orthodox culture

We could see this gorgeous church from our hotel . It is all part of the charm walking around this beautiful town of Monemvasia. Don't miss it!

Please do go inside the bright cool interior of this ancient church. The icons are not particularly old, and they feel more Roman or Russian than Byzantine, but the overall impact is of grace and peace. The pulpit with icons of Cgrist and the evangelists is lovely. The courtyard is shaded and spacious, a lovely spot to rest on a hot day.

We visited the Castro and every church in the old town. Elkomenos Christos, with it's thrones, the old icons the secret well was magnificent. It is a church that comes alive during the holy week, at Greek Easter. We loved following the service during this week. We have decided to go back in 2015 and celebrate Easter in the Greek way.Kate

The church and the central square are landmarks in this jewel of a town,We loved very much to walk around the small but animated old lower town, with its quaint antique shops and cozy restaurant and bars.

The ancient icon is very beautiful. The style and location of the church is superb. The separate campanile and square make a very fitting setting.

Very atmospheric; superb icon of Christ now back in the Church and closely guarded and preserved. Certainly worth visiting after your climb up the Rock.

The church of Elkomenos Christos is considered the 'most majestic of all the churches of the East" according to many Historians and we would have to agree with it's Veneto-Cretan style, retaining the iconic old intricate Byzantine architectural characteristics.Apparently the Church of Christ in Chains (Elkomenos Christos) is the third (replacement) church built on this site after the first was carried off to Constantinople in the 11th century and the second taken to Corfu in 1540. The name Elkominos comes from the verb 'elko' meaning 'to lead', signifying "Christ led away to the Passion".This beautiful church with of the sea old ancient city wall is amazing to take in, and a place which will never wear on the eyes and one of the first things that you see when you enter into this magnificent city.Don't forget to wear your walking shoes - there is no end to the steps you can climb in and around the area.
