Any other country would make more of this - put a piece of string round it ? charge for entrance ? invent some colourful legends ? - but not Greece, which is another reason to love Greece. Whether or not is has anything to do with Homer, it looks similar to various prehistoric temples scattered over Europe (Kokino for example). If it is a prehistoric temple, it's fascinating to think how it might have worked. Who sat where ? Or were the shelves for deities ? And was there any astronomical link ? It's easy to find. Starting from Chios town, walk north along the coast, and after three or four kilometres you'll see a big rock on the shore with strange projections and ledges on top. That's it.

I think some of the reviewers have only found the beach and have not actually found Homer's Rock itself! Walk to the Northern end of the beach and you will find yourself in a large car park with a restaurant in it. At the back of the car park is a signed path that will take you up the hill through the very scant ruins of a Sanctuary to Cybele. Keep going until you leave the shade of the trees and end up on a small outcrop of rock. It takes about 10 min from the car park. You will have lovely views down to the sea. You will also see the remains of a seat carved out of the solid rock. This is suposedly the Teacher's chair from which Homer taught!Fact or fable...it does not really matter. It is a lovely romantic spot. Afterwards do enjoy the lovely pebble beach.

Very few things remind visitors how important this place used to be for ancient times. This is considered to be the school of Homerus, the great poet of 'Iliada' and 'Odysseia'.There is a tiny tree park around the rock that Homerus used to teach and a white pebble beach next to it.There are also some tavernas with seafood and cafes beside the small port of Daskalopetra.
