Obertauern is a good resort for access and night lifeI have to be honest, I found a lot of the runs quite short and not that interesting as they are all on the sides of the same wide valley and without any tree line - skiing all felt a bit samey as a consequenceI've skied all over Europe for the last 30 years- including 4 times this season so maybe being a bit fussyEnjoyable weekend nonetheless

Good heights, nice slopes and pistas, it is easy to go around the whole valley on the skies. Nice lifts and cable cars.

At high altitude the slopes are the best we have skied on for beginners and intermediates. An appropriate quantity of blues and reds with great width to keep you occupied for 6 days. But with every piste navigating back to town we did a lot fewer kilometres than normal. And the town attracts the mid 40 wealthy crowd so while there are good bars etc the atmosphere is distinctly different to the average. Less dancing on tables but still fun. Watch out for prices. It ain't cheap.

From arrival we could not fault obertauern, a lovely Austrian town with lots of character, great skiing and great instruction - views are amazing

Good skiing as well for starters as for experiencend skiers. A lot of sportshops and restaurants. Don's need a car. Only supermarket is quite little.

Perfect snow sure resort. Great mountain restaurants. Good variety of runs. Well maintained pistes. Après ski great. Not the prettiest town or that good if you want to shop ( except for sports shops) but fantastic if it's all about the skiing and après ski.

Just had a great week in Obertauern, a convenient snow sure, if a little on the small side resort. Due to the abundance of snow we could ski to and from our hotel door, and everything in the town was within easy walking distance.Unfortunately, as with previous stays in Austria it was marred by the 30 % of people who smoke ruining it for the 70 % who don't.Im not sure exactly how the laws regarding smoking in bars and restaurants in Austria are worder, or if they are enforced in ski resorts, well away from centres of administration, but its high time Austria got its act together and followed suit with other European nations. We were a group of 8 people who probably spent a collective EUR 12 000 during the week there. Well, until we can go out for a couple of apres ski beers or a meal in the evening and not come back stinking of cigarrette smoke, that money will be going to an Italian, Swiss or German resort next year.I suspect Im not alone.

Obertauern is fantastic in good weather - there are 2 circuits, the Tauernrunde, which you can do clockwise and anticlockwise and they cover most of the pistes and high points. The ski lift system is very efficient and queues were minimal if any at all. Unfortunately when we were there we only had one good day, when we did the tauerunde, and had 5 days of low cloud, flat light and blizzards - up to a metre of snow fell in the week and soon every piste was a mogul field. There are very few tree runs in Obertauern and most of the pistes are very exposed and so in bad conditions skiing was difficult even for experienced intermediates such as ourselves on some of the higher pistes. We will return and hope for better weather to make the most of what looked fantastic skiing on our one sunny day

A really lovley resort with plenty of great skiing for all levels. easy to get around, and although there are alot of runs you are never that far from the village.

Ok the traffic from Munich towards Salzberg was slow and tough, but the skiiing in Obertauren is superb. Extremely efficient resort staff making your stay all the more enjoyable. Highly recommended as a place to ski and stay for a week.

This ski resort was really nice, so many lifts, ski hills. Wonderful!! many nice restaurants, bars, where you can have a nice lunch and sun tan on a chair.

Obertauern is a ski area in Salzburger Land with a bright future. Due to its fairly high altitude, it will have enough snow for decades to come. It features an interesting layout of slopes including the possibility of doing a full circle of the whole ski area in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Great backcountry/off-piste opportunities in good snow conditions! Friendly people, great service, but a bit on the pricey side of things especially for Salzburg.

Location is well above forest level, beginns at 1750 m, ends at 2700 m.A bit too industrial tourism, otherwise lifts are newer, slopes bit to easy, except Super 7....

A gorgeous ski resort. Pretty, friendly and lively. Lots of lovely bars/restaurants on the slopes, great apres ski. Lots of people skiing/serving in fancy dress/onesies if you are lucky enough to be there for any of the festivals. Comparatively small resort if you are used to some of the big French resorts, but makes up for it in charm and being pretty snow-sure and only an hours transfer from Salzburg (with no hideous winding hairpin bend roads involved). Always been for a long weekend in the past, but spent a full week there this year in great conditions, and it didn't feel too small at all. Gamsleiten 2 is a great black run
