The mystically beautiful NOCKALM ROAD in Carinthia/AustriaThe Nocky Mountains are the gentle side of the Alps and a geographical rarity. The wonderful rolling landscape features forests, pastures, small lakes reflecting the blue sky. Especially nice is the drive on the 35 kilometres winding road in autumn when the sky gets clearer, when the colours start changing into a splendid Indian Summer, the view as far as you can imagine, and far away you can see already snow covered mountain peaks. Every so often you can even hear the marmots whistle and you can watch birds of prey circling high up in the sky.Rustic lodges invite you to have a break and enjoy Carinthian’s culinary specialities.A number of exhibitions provide information on petrified fossils, the geology of the area, alpine farming and the flora and fauna. There is also a rustic spa, Karlbad, which is over 300 years old, where you can enjoy a bath in a wooden trough, filled with water from the near stream and warmed with heated up boulders from the very same stream. And don’t forget, we are talking about heights from 1,000 to 2,000 metres! It’s well worth visiting this special corner of Carinthia and witness nature in unimagined

Great Road with very nice curves, scenery is very beautiful! I was there on my motorcycle and had a very nice day. The beautiful mountains around this road are stunning

Over 36 kms of stunning scenery, no villages and an excellent road surface. Nockalmstraße runs through the heart of Nockalm National Park. This isn't a Race Track but is in my opinion one of the best biking roads in Europe. A mixture of hairpin curves, sweeping bends and long straights with variations in altitude on a surface put down with Bikers in mind. There are also free lockers at strategic scenic stops solely for Bikers to stow their gear.Cattle are free to roam on sections and can leave a mess on the roads just at the wrong point. Take particular care at the engining and end of the season when cattle are driven to their winter locations as the problem is magnified. There are quite a few cattle grids, some not in an ideal location for a motorcycle but they are well sign posted. This is a Toll Road and a day ticket in 2013 was €9,- allowing you to come and go as much as you would like. There is a price reduction for afternoons. There are also 5 or 6 nice food and drink stops along the route. Make sure you have plenty of fuel as there is none available within the park itself and especially on the north side it is many ams before you will find some.I do this road many times and it is never busy. You need to watch out for slow moving and manoeuvring cars at marked parking areas and coaches do use the road but it has never been an inconvenience for me. Like most popular Alpine Roads, you do need to watch out for other bikers and car drivers who's enthusiasm far exceeds there capabilities.Nockalmstraße usually opens on May 1st and until the end of October. Snowfall at any time of year can cause temporary closures.

This is a very nice road for driver or rider enthusiast, but not so extreme as Grossglocknerstrasse, the road is more fluid and with nice natural alpine surrounding and with a lot of thematic stops that invte you to take a break and see and learn about alpine biotic diversity. Sometimes it feels like you are somewhere else on the planet ...

This is long road through a national park offering nature trails, challenging hikes (optional), flora/fauna and stunning views. There are about 15 stops along the road where various attractions are shown. There is a toll of EUR15 per car (or free entry with a "Kartner card"). Highly recommend a visit here to experience some pure nature and fresh air.

Stupenda strada alpina Austriaca. Strada a pagamento.

Was soll man sagen: hinfahren, selbst sehen.
