5月去的 天气好，半雪半山天么么蓝~老外都敢光了膀子上“雪”山晒太阳 小火车一路就是森林+五大湖 ~山顶的餐厅消费也不高，（有帅哥服务员） 喝喝啤酒 看看湖 惬意啊~提醒下自驾滴童鞋~停车没有机器的~记得用转盘打好。赶观光火车忘记了没打上，下来一张抄报单。。。

Fantastic train journey with spectacular breath taking views.Well worth the ride.Always check the weather and look at the CCTV at the station of the summit so that you won't be disappointed.

Have to provide an average mark to get passed the page requirement . The location is stunning and trip when available would be a must while in Wolfgangsee

The cog railway leaves opposite the Wolfgangsee boat jetty. If you arrive by bus there is a stop near it or walk down the hill from Wolfgangsee Michael Pacher house. The cog railway has a special timetable during advent. When you get there, there is an electronic sign telling you how many seats are left on each trip.Basically the train takes 15-20 minutes to go up to the 'Advent Wagon' (where you can buy drinks). It does not go all the way up to the top in December. It stops there for about 20 minutes before you get back on to descend.When we left, it was very foggy at the bottom. Not much could be seen on the trip up, but just before stopping we broke through the fog, to see a chain of mountain tops and sun! Quite atmospheric and stunning. Even though the fog swirled around in the valleys and over the lakes, it did not lift ... So for us no lake view! What you see I guess is a matter of luck.

Cog railway train is having style and is comfy. Schafberg - place from where you can observe the valleys around and spend pleasant few hours enjoying family trip. We enjoyed tasteful lunch in the restaurant there.

You won't be disappointed. The views are amazing ...... and it's a fun ride. A great family thing to do for all ages.

One of the best train trips that I had ever during the last few years. you will have the chance to see the best view when you reach the top of the mountain. Highly recommended.

An amazing experience. We went on the moonlight special a few years ago, which reduced everyone to a genuinely awed silence. The views of the Schafberg from the valley and the lake are glorious too.

The trains chugs through beautiful countryside offering excellent views. Tickets are purchased on timed basis and there is heavy demand for mid morning departures, whereas departures in the afternoon are much less crowded. At the terminal at the top of the mountain there are two places to eat but they are a good walk up a steep rocky path. There appears to be few walks at the summit, although some people opt to walk back down the mountain instead of catching the train, there is a restaurant about half way down.

Amazing view really Wow especially on the sunny day. There are 2 cafe where you can drink coffee or beer with some food however if it foggy don't go you hardly see anything.

If you go on a nice clear day - the view is astonishing, both on the top of the mountain and during the trip itself. But be sure that the weather is nice - check the webcams http://www.schafbergbahn.at/de_at/Impressionen/Webcam.html.We took a family combo lake ticket that includes a boat round trip from St. Wolfgang to St. Gilgen. It was a bit pricey - but I've found it worth it.

one of the best experiences we've had in Austria. this is a must to if you are Turing the area. the way up is amazing and the view in once in a lifetime.

This is going to be a long review, but I hope dear reader you stick with it. I will include quite a few tips along the way. We visited today, 29th September,on what was a very hot but beautiful day for a trip like this; hardly a cloud in the sky. We drove from Berchtesgaden (1 hour). We parked in St Gilgen there is a good, spacious car park just along from the Boat Depature point - literally a 2 minute stroll. It cost 4 Euros for a day's parking AND there are decent toilets there for those of you with slack bladders! As it is now classified as out of season the first boat departs at 10:20. We bought a Combined Boat/Train ticket as the drive to the Wolfgangsee Schafberg seemed quite lengthy and we thought it would be a good idea to take in a boat trip as well as it affords some wonderful scenery.The Combined ticket is 44 Euros each (88 Euros + extra if you take a dog). The boats are very good, with a waitress who serves hot drinks, wines, beers and snacks during the 35 minute journey. Again, I am pointing out - the onboard toiiets are excellent. Getting on and off the boat did seem to be a bit cut and thrust - the English method of queing politely went straight out of the window - it seemed to be the "older generation" who were rudely pushing in. This also happened when we got to the station for the Cog Railway although you are booked onto a specific train. Seats by the windows are obviously popular and as someone else said on here, left hand side up and right hand side down (except when it is blisteringly hot as it was today - you get nicely cooked with the sun cominng through the windows, especially when you have to stop at passing points). There certainly was a bit of pushing and shoving with people trying to get to the best seats. Certainly on days like today, which was such lovely weather, the train was crammed to full and again if you have bags/children/pushchairs/dogs it is quite a squeeze. The ride up is spectacular and for steam railway/train buffs a real experience with stunning views on the way up. DONT FORGET TO BOOK YOUR RETURN JOURNEY WHEN YOU GET TO THE TOP STATION. You have to walk from the drop off point up to the hotel and restaurants - bear this in mind. For anyone a bit out of condition remember you and your body are operating at just on 6000ft, my heart felt as it was going to jump out of my chest on the walk up to the hotel area, and my lungs certainly needed all the air they could get. We stayed for just under 3 hours and this was certainly enough time to have a good meal with dessert and a walk around. To be honest when you get up there apart from a couple of places to eat there really isnt much else to do except enjoy the view. When we visited it was very busy and places to sit at a table and get a meal were going fast (although there is a reasonably good turn around). The food was good, hearty, traditional fare. We had a couple of drinks each (alcohol free beer and Coke), we shared a meal of Spinach Knodel with salad and a dessert of Germknodel and sauce. This came to 29 Euros - that's not massively cheap considering we shared both and didnt have a meal each. Remember tips are an important part of the waiting staff's pay. The trip back down is a bit different to the one coming up (which was relatively smooth). The whole descent is a bit of a spine juddering and bone shaking experience as the steam engine takes the strain of the incline against the cogs (MAKE SURE YOU EMPTY YOUR BLADDER BEFORE GOING DOWN!) Once again, we were packed into a very hot train like sardines. At the bottom you are tempted to buy photos taken of you on the way up -at 5 Euros a go I dont think its worth it.There is a nice ice cream place right opposite the station, so we enjoyed one each whilst waiting for the return boat to St Gilgen. Be aware that the boat times are limited. We caught the 15:38 boat but the next one did not depart until 17:00. You can get leaflets with all the times in English when you book so you can plan your journey there and back.All in all the whole day out cost as follows for 2 adults:4 Euros to park for the day44 Euros x 2 for boat and train return trip = 88 EurosDrinks on board the boat = 8 EurosMeal and drinks + tip = 33 EurosIce creams = 2:40 Euros for 2TOTAL = 135 Euros not including getting there and back (fuel)OH and I fogot if you want to have a pee up on the Sharfberg it will cost you 50 cents for the pleasure, so factor a few extra coins in.As someone else said - it is definitely pricey - is it worth it? Hmmmm, not so sure. For the experience yes it is something different BUT if you dont like being crammed in like sardines with your fellow human beings(some of them very rude and pushy) plus the odd squalking, fractious child, herded in and out of places only to end up sharing your piece of this outstanding natural beauty with a few hundred other people. then dont bother. As a tourist I know I am just part of the problem myself. There are better (cheaper) places like perhaps the Gross Glockner or the Jenner/Konigsee, even Dachstein (the 5 fingers).

It may seem a little pricey but it is well worth it. Although it was a sun/cloud mix on the day we went (we were above the clouds!), we still were able to see many of the surrounding lakes.
