The first association when someone mentions Karlovce the movie Barking at the Stars, so karlovacki bermet, and a fountain with lions. One complex place, where you should definitely spend some time.

Sremski Karlovci is small town just outside the Novi Sad. This is historic town in which is located serbian oldest Gymnasium (secondary school). Architecture is stunning, lots of beautifull old facades and buildings.Very quiet place where you can relax and enjoy, so if you visit Novi Sad dont miss out on this small place you will like it.

This cute little town makes a nice stop on the way to Novi Sad from Belgrade. It is in the heart of the wine area, and wine tasting is the highlight here. There are interesting restaurants, just nice cafes, a square and a couple of churches. The people are very warm and will seek you out to offer help or guidance. Don't miss it on the way to Novi Sad.

This is one of the most important wine areas of Serbia and the only place where genuine Bermet is produced. The wineries are small and most do not have an English speaker without prior arrangement. They best way to visit vineyards is to book a guide through the local tourist office +381 (0) 21/883-855 info@karlovci.org.rs. When we lived in Serbia, we booked tours for friends who visited us and always got a knowledgable guide. One can choose a tour of the city or just wineries. Each winery visit takes at least an hour, so two or three wineries is plenty. They often serve bits of food to accompany the wines. There are different prices for each winery, and it is well worth the cost for the presentations, wine tasting and food. We recommend Živanović winery and bee keeping museum with its new tasting room. http://muzejzivanovic.com/en/ Also Dulka http://dulka-vinarija.com/wine-tourism. Ask the tourist office to recomment another if you like.

Lovely town close to Novi Sad. The town has traditionally been known as the seat of Serbian Orthodox Church in the Habsburg Monarchy and you must visit the Patriarch's church while you are here, its fantastic. In Sremski Karlovci you must also taste Bermet, the dessert wine that is a specialty of northern Serbia's Fruška Gora wine region. You should also try to get some time to visit the monasteries of Fruska Gora close by.

Lovely small city with great atmosphere. Go taste the delicious Bermet wine by visiting one of the winehouses or the musea. The monastries in the area are beautiful as well, but you need a car to visit them. Easy to reach and very beautiful is the novo hopovo monastry.

A very cute town with a lot of charm and a definite Austro-Hungarian feel to it. A very pleasant place to spend a day, walking around the downtown. For a small town there was quite a lot to see.

Historic buildings all over the place. Lots of important religious places to see. A jewel to visit. Good restaurants too.

A picturesque city for passing a few hours on its pedestrianised streets. Just a small distance outside Novi Sad...so if you want somewhere for some peaceful karma away from the city...this is ideal

Little town on the bank of Danube river, near city of Novi Sad, with lovely city center. All town attractions are located on walking distance, as well as the Danube river.

We stayed in Sremski Karlovci while in Vojvodina, skipping the large city of Novi Sad. Karlovci is a lovely little town with a picturesque center which includes many beautiful buildings of historical value. We hired a driver/guide for the following day and had a wonderful time doing things that would have been difficult on our own. He took us to the churches, helped us get a guided tour by one of the students at the gymnasium, was able to get someone to unlock the Chapel of Peace, and drove us to a hilltop cemetery and a great view. He also arranged for a tour of the Museum of Bee Keeoing and Wine Cellar of the Zivanovic family which was fascinating where the wine and honey tastings were superb. After that, we went to visit several of the monasteries of the nearby Fruska Gora and ended the day with a visit to a local farm where we talked with the farmer about his family's history and the current situation for farmers. All in all, visiting Sremski Karlovci was a great idea. If anyone would like the guide's contact information, just email us through TripAdvisor. (We were able to get his information from another Trip Advisor contributor ourselves.)

We went to Sremski Karlovci as part of out visit to Novi Sad while on a river cruise. It is a delightful small city with many interesting buildings. Our tour guide went to language there and was very imformative about the city. There is even a small pottery shop that is famous in the city. It is certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.

Full disclosure--we didn't get to try the wine, so no comment on that. The town itself, though, is well-worth a visit during any trip to Novi Sad or the nearby area. There is so much history there, we highly recommend finding someone (or a book) to have as a guide. We got extremely lucky in that regard. Though we loved Novi Sad, during our next trip to Serbia, we fully expected to spend a couple nights in Sremski Karlovci to be able to see more of the town and its sights. Wikipedia and other websites have information about the attractions, so I won't go into those here, but I will recommend bringing several empty water bottles, and filling up on the fountain in the center of town. I'll let the locals tell you what will happen to you when you do.

Our main aim was to visit one of the winery for wine tasting. However, it was a lovely town with many beautiful buildings. If there was more time, I'd love to stay on a bit for walking around the town.
