Historical and cultural, it's interesting to walk around these and step back in your head to how things were back in this time.

Nice as a castle but nothing to see from it since it is not allowed to go up to the top.It is necessary to take care of it & make renovation for it to allow tourists to go up & see a panoramic view of Trabzon

This is the tinest little fortress--if you've seen other fortresses, you'll be disappointed by this one. You can see it from the shore--it is right near a bunch of cafes. Take a photo from the outside, but don't bother going in.

A nice walk of an hour ,in the upper castle of the medieval city to admire the ruins of the ex Imperial Byzantine Palace, hidden besides ordinary local houses, and the nice panorama,is a must to complete a tour .One of the few surviving Byzantine palaces, but the remains are in deplorable state. However,it is not always welcome any local intervention/restoration effort,as the restorations in Turkey, several times, covers the historical remaining s and give a Disneyland picture after( as the restoration of the medieval walls in Istanbul and some analogue efforts in Trabzon external defensive walls)So,take the opportunity and admire the site, before the modern Disneyland makers intervene(as they had already started with the external ravine site of the Palace),but you must had red before a good description or have a real professional guide( not the usual ones) to understand the ex splendor of the ruins of the Byzantine Palace of the emperors of the empire of Trebisond(1204-1461) ,the last Byzantine state.

Trabzon and the Black Sea Region is a beautiful destination to tour, with its beautiful natural scenery and historic attractions which are not talked about often. The fresh air, mountains, valleys, waterfalls and streams are so picturesque, and seeing the simple but fulfilling village lifestyle with traditional turkish food and the delicious rice pudding with cashew topping makes it hard to return to any crowded city lifestyle. The Trabzon area is probably best seen with a tour, as there are many interesting historical sites in the region. I have complete confidence in advising anyone to avoid the services of Thalassa tours agency. We were lead by our guide Davut/David who was grumpy, arrogant, disrespectful and very rude, which did not represent the Turkish hospitality whatsoever (I think he is actually from a non Turkish background). He talked a lot, gave false information and ironically belittled Turkey, religion, people, political parties and was very opinionated. At fist I thought he was being goofy but he did not allow questions and spoke over the top of us and said "Im talking, you listen to me!". He smelled of alcohol throughout the tour and our tour days didn't start before 11:00 a.m. because he slept-in after his "long nights". The other members of the group were also very disappointed and said they would report him. Over all he did not provide the services that we paid for. I would definitely visit the area again, but will definitely choose an agency other than Thalassa Tours.
