Nice museum in the center of the city. There is a small archeological site at outside and a monuments to the sailors of Sinop Raid. The city of Sinop is very beautiful, people are very friendly and very kind. There are also humble fish restaurants at the harbor where you can eat very fresh and reasonably priced fish and other sea food.

This is a fairly small museum in the main square, and has a good collection of antiquities - pottery, coins, icons, sculpture etc. There is a pleasant outdoor area with a further collection of statues and tombstones. Easy walking distance to the Alaaddin Mosque, and the Ethnographical Museum. Admission 5 TL.I walked to the Balatlar Church, an uphill walk, only to find it closed and surrounded by ugly wire fences. Clearly some work is being carried out, and I would suggest checking on access.

Sinop is growing and there have been many significant historical discoveries here both on land and under the Black Sea . I appreciated how much work this museum has done to highlight their archelogical heritage.Hopefully this museum will be able to continue expand as Sinop grows. It is an important site.

Nice museum with a range of local artefacts. Outside there is a small archeological site and a monument to the sailors of Sinop Raid. The town of Sinop is beautiful and is a treat to see somewhere so unspoilt.

Given the out of the way location of Sinop we were impressed by the quality of this little museum and the fact it had signage in English. Since almost no structures survive from the towns long history, the museum is the only place you can see its importance in antiquity. You can also see two rather conflicting accounts of the attack on Sinop by the Russian fleet that triggered the Crimean War in 1853. Was there a fog or sleet preventing the Turkish fleet from seeing the approaching Russian fleet? In any case all but one of the Turkish ships were sunk.

Last stop of Oceania Black Sea cruise was Sinop. I was pleasantly surprised by this little museum in comparison to no museum in Sochi, or Trabzon and the poor museum at the Ancient City of Histria near Constanta and the Nessebar museum. Perhaps I was impressed by the prominence given to Diogenes of Sinope (412 or 404 BC–323 BC), philosopher. I always liked this Cynic philosopher that Plato called a crazy Socrates. Making little connections like this are highlights of travel. I will always remember this museum because of the statue of Diogenes and the dog. After so many Mosques and Churches that will blend in my memory the story of Diogenes watching a child drink with it's hands taught him how little we need in life and he threw away his only possession his bowl.

A small museum with artifacts found near or in Sinop. Next to the building as a small archeological site, and the garden features many statues and mosaics set against the outside walls of the building.

Sinop is a small beautiful town in Turkish Black Sea. This museum was average. It was very warm inside so we went through very quick. Typical Turkish archeological things.

Well worth a visit particularly coming from the UK as it encourages one to see the history and the artefacts on show from an Eastern viewpoint as opposed to the British Museum,a collections. We had about the Icons before the visit and had expected something more impressive but that is a comment on that which we had read

Sinop Archaeology Museum is a small but rich museum. This lovely museum building and beautiful garden situated in the middle of Sinop town center. Inside you can find Roman, Christian & Ottoman artifacts. In the garden there's a fish pond and ruins of Temple of Seraphis. One of the best stops in Sinop definetely.

Interesting artefacts and mosaics. Big Greek and Roman sections, but nothing much about the Byzantine period. We also get to learn a lot on the war of Independence. Worth visiting !

The archaeology museum in Sinop is located in the town centre and gives and excellent account of the history of the town since its first inhabitants about 7 000 years ago and also have a good display of the Crimean War and the Russian attack which nearly destroyed the city. A memorial dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives is in the museum garden. Sinop is a scenic seaside town on the Black Sea and it has a lovely waterfront where one can walk and there are good seafood restaurants. Opposite the museum is the Hotel Gonul which is great value for money and the central location makes for easy exploring of Sinop. The Erzurum Kebap restaurant is also opposite the museum gardens and have a delicious and affordable selection of Turkish dishes. Even in winter you can spend at least three days to explore Sinop and surrounds.

I was pleasantly surprised by this museum in a city I'd never heard of before stopping there on a cruise. It is not huge, but the quality of artifacts and the many cultures represented make it very interesting. I especially like the way items were not separated by century, but often displayed with similar items of a different period. Outside there is a collection of beautiful tombstones.
