The bus drives you out the hiway to this "so called" attractionand lets you out to wander around. No tourist development, just a grouping of stone pillars.Don't waste your time or your money here. Period! There are other things to see and do in and around Varna which are much more interesting and educational.

18 km west of Varna on the highway to Sofia is a very interesting geological site, actually a stone forest. In Bulgarian: Pobiti Kamani. Several hundred meters of stone pillars, mostly round and about 6-8 meters high form a strange forest dating 50 million years ago.So its worth a trip to see this place.

This is a fantastical landscape worth a detour and up to a couple hours of your time. Just to walk among these formations and marvel at them works the imagination. There is no tourist development to speak of, so it really is just this vast expanse of formerly underwater rock formations, but a great place to walk, and imagine, or meditate. Hard to believe that this is in Bulgaria, and not the US SouthWest. Great for energy buffs and the spiritually or geologically inclined.**visited in August 2013, TripAdvisor wouldn't let me put in the actual date.

I love this place. It is amazing, full of energy. With interesting forms and interesting story for some stones. The guide will explain you what will happened when you find the stone with heart.

This piece of landscape is so beautiful and unique that I totally recommend a visit! You can walk around on the area for probably an hour. Entrance staff is really friendly. Entrance fee: 3 Leva. The only bad thing about it is, that it is hard to reach with public transport. There is only the bus 43, which goes to the next town Slunchevo. It is still 3 km to walk from there and busses are not frequent. Check here for timetable: http://gtvarna.free.bg/liniq43.htm . I tried to go there on a Saturday and the bus did not come at all! Somebody offered to take us with him to slunchevo for 3 Leva. The way back was not a problem at all, because there are enough other tourists willing to share their taxi ;-) Bring water and maybe also food! There is only countryside around!

it is possible to cast your mind back to how it would of looked submerged in times gone bye. you could easily wander around this for 15 minutes, just enough time to take pictures or use your imagination and soak up some atmosphere. An hour would be long enough unless you have children who could play in the sand and around the columns

This is the place what you should visit in Bulgaria. Great views and peaceful place. Not far from Varna.

The Petrified Forest near Varna is a very special place because it looks like there's just suddenly a desert with rock tree trunks in the middle of the landscape. I don't know why it costs money to go in there, because there are no signs or explanations in the area, only a few posters inside the ticket office/souvenir shop. It's too bad, as many others have pointed out. We took a nice walk in the rock desert and found it interesting to see figures in the rocks. We also had our lunch sandwiches inside the cave just by the entrance. It was extremely hot on a summer midday. I would recommend you go late in the day.

This was a very busy site when we visited. All of the guides were allocated so we bought a paper guide (full colour) and set off. There are numerous historic stone formations which have been given names identified by their appearance. Some quite funny. You can ramble about for hours or cover it in about 1hr 30 mins. Value for money at 5 lv (approx £2)

Enjoyed a few hours looking at all the stones in the forest trying to see the connection to the book very good for children playing hide and seek. Nice safe place

Very interesting geological phenomena whose origins are hypothesized as microbial oxidation around seepages of natural gas. The origin of cementation is around 50 million years ago and has been exposed consequently the erosion of the sediments unconsolidated . This area has a wide extension and is unique in Bulgaria. It is worthy of a visit.

Place looks really amazing. At ticket office, on the wall, there is description of place and the hypothesis of stones genesis (also in English). It is worth to go few kilometers (~15km) away from Varna to see thise area. Visiting time: 30-60 minutes. Ticket for adult: 3 lev

This place has a really good potential if it has a guide who can explain what these rocks are, what's their history, etc. It's ridiculous that they still require a fee to get into this place full of .. rocks.

You need a guide otherwise its just like looking at some stone rocks, needs some investment from the local government tourist agency as its got potential to be a good tourist attraction ..... if your really bored then take a trip

The Stone Forest is not like the Crystal Forest in Arizona. You won't find beautifully petrified trees. This stone forest is rock left behind when the sea receded. 10 to 15 minutes stretching your legs and shooting a handful of picts is all you need.
