This is the place you won't want to miss! A wonderful collection of Russian art in the heart of Moscow. Here you will find the most famous works of the best Russian artists. Once you enter the halls the time will stop. Do take an audio-guide, it will help you navigate through the museum floors. Visit a museum shop - the prices are fair for the quality of products you will find. Every now and then the Gallery has problems with credit card payments. If that is the case, do not panic: there are several ATMs inside of the building.

A fantastic museum! The building alone is worth coming to see, a great piece of architecture, really beautiful inside, a must see if you are a fan of modernist architecture. The amount of artwork on display is incredible, well worth the entrance fee. The gallery is spacious and well ordered, easily able to wander around at our leisure taking time to view each of the pieces. All the paintings, sculptures etc have english translations of information and captions, which is great, which we did not expect after visiting a few other moscow museums. Graveyard of fallen monuments outside is also excellent, had a great time wandering around it in the snow! Would seriously recommend visiting, take a whole day out to go around if you can, so much to see, and a great atmosphere- relaxed and friendly. If I had any suggestions for the museum, it would be- have a comment/guest book- I really wanted to show my appreciation- and have a larger shop with more postcards, posters etc. Overall a great day spent at the New Tretyakov!

Tretyakov gallery is the most famous art museum in Moscow. They have a collection of masterpieces of Russian artists, such as Repin, Shishkin, Serov, Vasnetsov and many more. The famous "Ivan the terrible kills his son" is a must see! Plan on spending a day there!

This gallery was established to display art by Russian artists and as such you get exposure to a group of artists you would not see much in the west.Definitely one of the two must see galleries in Russia ( The other being the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg)The art also has a Russian cultural perspective with snow , mud. 19th century war and peasant village life featuring as well as some very good portraits. The style of art includes quite a bit of Impressionist style art .One memorable piece was "The Appearance of Christ to The People" painted by the artist Alexander Ivanov.Ivanov took 20 years to complete this large painting and made 800 preparatory painting ( owned by the Gallery) some of which hang in the gallery and are great in their own right.Hint:Make sure you work out your map to get there as the street sign are in Cyrillic. You can get fairly close by the subway and the locals are a good help if you get lost even if you have to use sign language. Best Idea is to get your hotel to write the name and address in Cyrillic so you can show it if you get lost.

Magic. Loved it. Wow very classy, Just what you expect in Moscow. Very deceiving from the outside but once in side it just goes. I would go back again

Absolutely fantastic collection of Russian avant-garde art, including real masterpieces of Malevich, Lissitzky, Tatlin or Rodchenko! It is really worth a visit!

Some really spectacular pieces of art on display. Went with a guide, and that really helped to place everything and explain the exhibits.

Check the programme of this Gallery when you're in Moscow. Sometimes they have great exhibitions. Even if the 19th, 20th century Russian art is not familiar to you, it can blow you away!

This gallery is placed on the banks of the Moscow river and right across of Gorky Park. It is a huge 1960's style building which is in my opinion worth seeing. There is cloakroom, restrooms, small shop and cafeteria on the 1st floor. Their 3 floors contain huge collection of Russian modern art (19-20th century). You can also see Russian abstract art, constructivists, cubists, expressionists etc... Couple of rooms contain collection of art which represent soviet propaganda. Behind this Museum there is also Museon park where you can see great collection of sculptures of the same era and have a bite. . Great experience and worth seeing for sure.

Oh my! For the lover of art history or one who enjoys seeing the development of techniques over recent transitions in history, this is the place. Well curated, great special exhibits, beautiful location, manageable size- really great stuff. Sad to say that despite the beautiful structure, it appears to be not as well maintained as it could be. I loved being able to get so close to the paintings that brush strokes & techniques were highly noticeable. Fabulous!

We visited this huge museum of Russian modern art on an afternoon especially to see the Golovin works. I call him the painter of roses as most of his works contain roses even on his very manly looking senoritas. We also saw some bizarre b&w work by Prigov. But the costumes and stage sets for the Bolshoi operas by Fedorovsky were show-stopping. We "dined" at the very Soviet-style cafeteria downstairs on Soviet soup, sad Soviet fish, and hard bread--a dining experience you might want to avoid.

This gallery is in a 1960's/70's style building on the banks of the Moscow river. There were three floors, no escalators or lifts that we could see but hey the walks good for you. The displays we enjoyed the most were the Soviet propaganda style displays and the revolutionary art. Go early, we missed a gallery as the place was too big to see in an afternoon.

It was very tiring going from room to room in this very large building. Recommended only for those interested in MODERN Russian art. A few of the paintings are by fmous painters but the museum is too big
