I pretty hesitated before going there. But this outdoor museum was an excellent surprise. You can easily spend 3 hours in it walking from house to house. There are also typical wooden churches. Do not miss to taste and buy local honey as well as excellent local dishes and drinks inside of the museum. They also produce and sell amazing local soaps. Entrance fee is cheap again : around 15 Hr. This is an attraction to be combined with the marvelous cemetery on the opposite side (check my critic on it).

A really nice place to see wooden Ukrainian architecture of the regions. Definitely a place to visit when you're in Lviv!

Since the new director came in this year, the architectural museum (which folks here know as Shevchenko's Wood: Shevchenkivsky Haiy) has become much nicer. There are regularly candle-making and oil making demonstrations where you can participate and take home the candles and flax seed or pumpkin seed oils. The blacksmith's lets you make horseshoes sometimes and the Cossack eating area next to it has kulysh, mushroom soup, mulled wine, bread with lard spread and lots of other traditional Ukrainian/Cossack cuisine. You can also watch a woman use a traditional Ukrainian oven and shoot arrows and throw spears down there. And that's to say nothing of the beautifully restored architecture all around the museum. A great option when the weather is nice.

Our son was adopted from Lviv and we brought him back to see his city and country. This museum was a great way to see how the Ukrainian people lived in the past and for our son to learn a little about his heritage.

. We got a guide the beginning . We were show the structures at he beginning but it got us curiosity about the other building . Some of the houses had furniture. We would have like to see more of the park.

It is quite easy to find though the signs end up early before the entrance. Entry fee was 15 hryvnia per adult. Almost all the buildings were locked, even some whole yards too. There were no signed paths or proper maps so we end up many times to dead-ends. There was only very little information of the buildings in english, or nothing. Beutiful buildings, but it was definitely not worth of walking from the center of Lviv. I'm wondering why this place was so highly recommended in the guidebooks.

This is a very interesting open air museum. I would not recommend hiring a tour guide, but rather walking at your own pace and experiencing the landscape in this way. Not a place for children, as most that we saw were incredibly bored.

Hopped down and then up to this museum today. I've been in L'viv for 2 years and never bothered to make the trek. Aside from the exercise I wasn't impressed. It's a bunch of wooden building moved (probably modified), several Churches. Actually if you follow along the paths into the woods you can find some still being restored and some left for the time being. Particularly shocking was the price: 30 hryvna. You can go watch feature films in L'viv for 30 hryvna a person. Definitely underwhelmed but I've roomed at monasteries older and in better condition then most of their wood work, and seen older wooden building in Russia.Definitely kid friendly though, they have a little kids zoopark also.

Having read the reviews this was a visit I was looking forward to but we really could not enjoy it for trying to ward off all the mosquitoes once we started to walk further into the loop. We were both badly bitten and so could only think about how quickly we could get out.

What a great way to see examples of traditional architecture and culture without having to rent a car and search out what is left! And how wonderful that the country is preserving them. We went on a Saturday In May and there were several wedding parties having photos taken in front of the beautiful wooded homes and churches. The frustrating part was that not all of the structures were open. I was eager to see inside.all the churches and most were locked, though one could peak and see that renovations had been done in most. There was something to see. Another problem was that trails were not well marked. We and a family of Ukrainians took a path that led us down a slippery hill and ended up getting muddy. This visit requires a lot of walking under the best of circumstances, so it is not for everyone, but it is well worth the effort. A trolly takes you from the town center to a stop near the entrance.

A fascinating collection of historical wooden buildings gathered from around Ukraine. Particular highlights were 2 wooden churches each with three peaks. A lot of the farm houses are open and you get a real sense of life in the country for 150-300 years ago. A relaxing setting in the woods, I visited in light rain but stayed dry under the thick canopy. If you've never visited this type of museum before, it's a 5 star; Nothing is signed in English, no English is spoken but was well informed in my mid-level German by some friendly old ladies attending. I've been to some similar ones in Norway and Finland with good signage/English widely spoken which is why the four star. You can reach there from the centre on bus 19 and 39 (2 hror tram 2 and 10, which all go along vul. lychaskiva, you can board the bus at e.g. Vul. pidval'na by the assumption church..the museum is just off the 'Lviv in your pocket' map which you'll find all over the city- get off at the junction with via Mechinkova and walk up vul. nixhynskza. It's well signposted in English at the beginning, signs missing in the last 200 metres but just carry on the road with the woods and railings on the left. The map link from trip advisor is trustworthy. It's only a 15 minute walk down to Lychavis'kc Cemetry, so why not combine the two?

The name of the museum is Shevchenkivskyi Hai, which means Shevchenko Grove - after the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. It's a lovely place to walk around on a fine day - it's an open-air museum where you'll see all kinds of Ukrainian houses from various regions of the country. Though the museum is quite far from the Old Town and the city centre, it is worth a visit.

The Museum is one of the most fascinating places to visit for lovers of Ukrainian culture. Despite being located in the suburbs of the city on Chernecha Gora Street, it is definitely worth a visit. Receiving direct funding from the city council as well as being in a nationalistic town, Shevchenkivsky Hay is the best preserved of all the folk museums in the country. There are currently more than 124 architectural monuments in the complex consisting of village houses, churches and farmsteads. The ancient folk art and style of housing is simply stunning. Another impressive factor about this landmark is that the price of admission is extremely cheap: UAH 10.00 for adults, UAH 5.00 for children & students, UAH 50.00 for general excursions, and UAH 20.00 for special excursions. It is open 7 days a week from 9a.m to 6p.m. To get there, you have the option of taking either bus 19 or 39. For more information, please consult the following website - www.skansen.lviv.ua

This place is great. There are wooden houses from all over Ukraine that date back to the 1700s! There are amazing cathedrals and homes. I went in the winter, so it was a bit chilly, however it warmed up from the day before so the snow turned to slush. This was problem because my shoes were all wet from walking in the mixture of snow/water all day. I have seen photos from Spring and Summer and would recommend going during this time if you can. If not Winter is still awesome!! The houses are not open to see inside during the Winter months. Wear comfy shoes, plan to stay awhile, and walk a lot! This place is a must see. Don't miss out! Admission is about 15 grivna/adult + 10 grivna for taking photos (very cheap for Euro/USD tourists!!)

This place has a great collection of wooden houses from all over Western Ukraine. It's a nice place to have a picnic with friends since the nature is this area is just amazing!!!The best time to visit this place is of course Easter - they organise traditional games, handcraft workshops, singing, etc. Entry ticket price is about 1 EUR (10 UAH) that is more than reasonable for such a great place!
