The place doesn´t require a great amount of time as they want you to spend, but the guide that took us for the ride was so entusiastic about the place and the geology etc that it was a real good time being there.

If you go on a group tour you can have it in English, otherwise the tour is just in Spanish. I'm sure it's a great tour if you speak Spanish but otherwise no point going

Cavernas del Viejo Volcan Parque Cerro Leones promised us a bilingual guided tour. The guide had limited English skills, especially when explaining the history and geography of the area. Explanations in Spanish that took three or four minutes were reduced to a few words of English. The site is not particularly impressive, the limited pictographs are almost not visible. The crawl into the deepest cavern is difficult for older people and not worth the effort. All in all a waste of an afternoon in Bariloche.

The guide, Sebastian, was a fountain of knowledge and was a delightful young man. If you get the opportunity, it is well worth it!

This is an attraction about 25kms from Bariloche. It involves a short climb and a visit go several caverns which have been used for 8000 years as shelters for ancient man.A guide is obligatory and we had a nice guide who was very knowledgeable about geology and the formations in and around Bariloche. It was very interesting and the caves had interesting rock formations...The view from the top offered 360° view of the surrounding countryside... beautiful.A restaurant is available for snacks at the end of the tour...which takes about 2.5 hours. It was a nice alternative to cable cars to various mountain tops in the area.

My boyfriend and I took the local bus to Cerro Leones. Once there the staff were friendly and the tour guide took us up to the caves. He spoke good english and was able to give us plenty of information regarding the history of the caves. The views were beautiful especially as you can climb to the top. Overall its deffinately a good low-budget excursion!

Volveria a ir.
