The only option to get there was either to rent a car or pony up the 15000 chilean pesos per person which is what we did. I liked the park and would have loved try the 'canopy' as that's supposed to be great but didn't want to spend the extra. The hiking trails were well laid out but there didn't seem to be a lot of them. We didn't have a car so we were limited to where the 15000 per person minibus dropped us off. The bathrooms were clean and the coffee shop as well was good. Instant coffee - yes. But I'm getting used to it.

A great day for a family outing with easy trails, a great canopy line (for additional cost) with 4 super high and long line, and also good camping sites to stay or have a picnic. Clean bathrooms available as well as basic coffee shop. Would have appreciated that the guides were more expressive and passionate about the place, telling us whta type of vegetarion, birds etc we saw as we did the canopy.

This is not your average hiking park. First the drive to it is over gravel roads and although the park is close to Valdivia will take an hour plus to arrive as you have to go quite slowly. Park entrance fees are 3,000 pesos per person.Once you arrive the park doesn't have traditional hiking trails. You drive from trail to trail, stopping and parking and then hiking very short 20 min loops. Then you're off to do the next loop or just to stop for a picture spot.At the end of the drive/hike loop you finally get to a traditional hiking trail which is about an hour and a half return. Very easy climb (not much in the way of altitude gain from where you park). Filled with kids. The views at the top are beautiful and worth the trip but if you're seeking a 4-5 hour hike in solitude this isn't the place for you.

This is a great wilderness area of forest with birdlife and ferns. There is a small camp site and one or two lookout towers from which you can see the city of Valdivia on its inlet to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and the volcanos of Argentina to the east including beautiful Volcan Lanin. If you are camping it is well worth an overnight stay

Reserve a day, at least, for the virgin forest in the rainy zone of Chile. Plenty of birds, smaragde-green hummingbirds... climb to the outlook to the Ocean, and if you dare passing the night there, you may see a wonderful sunset in direction Australia.

We had half a day spare in Valdivia and decided to go to Parque Oncol. A good place and a great way to spend the time. Perfect if you're short of time too. You drive through and there are lots of signposted places to park up and go for short walks. Very peaceful and some stunning views. If we'd had more time it would have been great to do some of the longer walks or even the canopy zip wire.
