London Bridge is on the 18km Heritage Trail, an interesting drive around Sandstone. A natural rock formation, it is probably the most photographed feature in the area and rightly so. An information board nearby explains how the bridge was formed and explains the history of the area. You are also asked to refrain from walking across the top of the bridge as it is gradually being eroded. We enjoyed a picnic lunch here. Other features of the Heritage Trail include the site of the old Sandstone brewery, the old State battery and a well used by Cobb and Co. Coaches.

You have to try Lady Di's Pies in Sandstone, WA, on your way to London Bridge. She is a 'colorful character" and worth the stop. And the pies are delicious. The London Bridge sandstone formation is definitely something special. May be not everyone's cup of tea to travel a few hundred kilometers. I think it was worth it.

London Bridge is located a little over 10km from Sandstone.Heading west, towards Mt. Magnet, the turn off is difficult to find as there is no signage, but is about 1-2km's from the town of Sandstone itself.Heading east towards Leinster, there is a turnoff sign on the right hand side.A nice little picnic spot will await you upon arrival. The dirt road is fairly well kept, although there was a couple wet spots after recent rains which may cause problems for a 2WD vehicle.

When in Sandstone make sure you have a free hot drink and buy one of Lady Di's home made pies. She is a real lovable character. You will find her next to the Sandstone Heritage museum. Incidentally the Heritage museum looks after the fuel from the station across the road. The only place to buy fuel in town.

Two weeks ago during a gold prospecting trip I stopped off in Sandstone, between Mount Magnet and Leinster in the east Murchison District. One of the best things to see around town is London Bridge, a natural weathered basalt arch that is part of a larger formation about 800 metres long, varying in height from around 3 to 10 metres. Other attractions include the Heritage Museum, old Miner's Cottage, Black Range Chapel, the site of the old brewery and Contradiction Well. Also, if you are there over the weekend stop to have a free cuppa, a homemade meat pie and a good yarn with Lady Di, next door to the Heritage Museum.
