What a great find! This miniature railway has been lovingly built and the engines and rail-cars restored with passion. The single track offers extraordinary views of the region to be equally enjoyed by adults and children. We had under 5s with us who were given the chance to switch the tracks and a month later, still talking about the experience. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and has some wonderful pieces of history to share. I understand the operating hours are limited, so worth checking before you go.

Occasionally, we all stumble across hidden gems around Victoria. Kerrisdale Mountain Railway is one of those. Located just out of Seymour, KMR brings out the kid in all of us. From the time you arrive, owners Andrew and Jennifer go out of their way to make you feel at home and provide a wonderful interactive experience. Thousands of hours of careful restoration has resulted in a museum and railway experience that is fun and educational for people of all ages. How many places can kids be taught and allowed to actual change the tracks of an old steam train? Breathtaking views just add to the place. Thoroughly recommend.

The fantastic train-ride, the breathtaking view and the attitude of the extremely knowledgeable and pleasant owners makes it a perfect place for a family visit. Highly recommended! Combined with one of the attractions around (Yea, or one of the place Andrew recommends) is a great day out.

We had a large group of 35 spend the day at Kerrisdale Mountain Railway as a private event... and had a wonderful day! Jennifer and Andrew were wonderful hosts and ensured we had the perfect time. The railway is loving maintained and the history obvious. The weather was perfect, the view magnificent, the railway well worth it. Highly recommended!

This excellent 610 millimetre gauge miniature railway is indeed a gem. It's just off the Seymour to Yea section of the Goulburn Valley Highway at Kerrisdale, not in coastal 'Jan Juc' as TA's address claims (that town is 150 kilometres away!)The museum has quite a few static steam engines (not railway steam locomotives) that apparently are steamed up on Sundays (when I was not there). There are many historic photos of the former Tallarook to Mansfield Victorian Railways' branch line that closed in about 1978.The railway has two diesel locomotives with a steam loco under construction. It is very well laid out, with 'top points' to get from one level to another. There is an attractive native garden at the summit. I saw numerous kangaroos grazing 80 metres away, but of course they were not tame.Outside the museum are pleasant picnic tables and a small cafe. All in all an excellent museum and as clean as a whistle.

Kerrisdale Mountain Railway is a great little gem, tucked away in the treetops. The gorgeous trains, grounds, track and museum are lovingly maintained and run by Andrew and Jennifer Forbes, who gave us a great welcome and lots of history about the trains. Andrew is passionate about his subject so if you're train mad, don't miss this.Their website has beautiful photos of the short and scenic train trip, and details of events and prices.
