I had the pleasure of visiting this little gem with a friend who had travelled from Tassie and wanted to come and see the Beaufighter. Having worked at Avalon Air Show for the few weeks leading up to my trip, I was inspired and thirsty for more! I was lucky enough to get shown around and given a bit of extra background information from the wonderful Noel, whose time and extra efforts just made our little trip so wonderful. I'll be heading back again soon with a few others in tow and perhaps a better camera! Cheers, guys and great work on all the restorations! :)

If your an warbird and vintage aviation buff, this is the place for you. I was given a very friendly and personalised guided tour, they opened many of the aircraft and cockpits for me to see, sit in and feel what these iconic aircraft were like. This in one musuem that is a "must see" place. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.Ian H

Visited the museum on a nice sunny afternoon, really good value and a nice overview of aviation in Oz. Can even go into the cockpit of a few. Would recommend surprised it's not rated higher

Hidden away inside the Moorabbin Airport grounds the Air Museum is an excellent place to spend a couple of hours and easily worth the small admission charge. Staffed by a friendly and experienced group of aviation experts the museum has an amazing collection of well preserved historical aircraft, ranging from a Vickers Viscount to a beautifully restored Beaufighter. Many of the aircraft are accessible and one can settle down in the left hand seat of the cockpit and gaze across the instruments. Don't forget to check out the collection of engines featuring a Rolls Royce Merlin of Spitfire fame. Highly recommended can't wait to go again.

I found this attraction from using Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. My husband is a plane fanatic and I go along for the ride so to speak. He enjoyed inspecting all displays at great length. If you are not so keen on planes there is still a lot of interesting displays which relate to the history of air travel. We were taken inside the Viscount and for me that was the hi-light of the visit. My husband was allowed to sit in the cockpit and took photos. They have set up an interactive tour, if you have a smartphone or iPad you can scan the code and then listen to the sound of the aircraft and some details. We don't have an smartphone and we didn't take the iPad. i wish we had known about it. The admission fee is very reasonable at $5 each for pensioners. They have cool drinks, ice creams, chocolates and hot drinks for sale. If you want something more substantial there is a cafe across the road. I finished long before my husband so I waited in the shop area where they have very comfy airline seats. The people were friendly and very helpful.

This museum is a real hidden gem, a great collection of aircraft with particular significance to Australia's aviation heritage. There a significant aircraft stored indoors and out and there is obvious care and attention to all exhibits with restoration being conducted. this is a must-see for anyone who has even a passing interest in aviation.

any plane buff should visit this little aircraft museum at Moorabbin Airport, which offers a large display of military and general aviation planes including a Bristol Beaufighter which for me is one of the best looking fighters of all. Some years ago whilst at an afl game at Waverley (st.kilda v Essendon) one of these flew over the ground at low height and great speed, and you knew why it was called whispering death. We did not hear it comng.Maybe it was There is an Ansett dc3 which is sometimes open and even a dc2 from KLM--what a great relic of the past, and aTAA Vickers Viscount (which i am told once belonged to Fidel Castro) Some are in the process of restoration.Very cheap to visit and a great little cafenext door, called, naturally enough Wings

Anyone with an interest in aircraft should visit this museum as it offers a large display of our military and commercial aircraft.. Run by volunteers it gives a wonderful insight to our aircraft past and present. The aircraft displayed have been lovingly restored with many more in the process of restoration that were donated to the museum or found rotting in paddocks. The untiring work carried out by the volunteers is exemplary.Visit the museum at the Moorabbin Airport and see for yourself the wonderful history of Australian aircraft.View the Wirraway, Tiger Moth, Replicas of the Lady Southern Cross & Duigan Bi-plane, Auster Aiglet, Percival Proctor to mention a few. Also Jet aircraft CAC Avon Sabre, Gloster Meteor, Mirage 111, Sea venom to mention a few..Interested, for a nominal fee it's well worth the visit.Make a donation to let this museum grow or purchase books or souvenirs available at the shop.

This is a great museum. the children can get up close to a number of aircraft and walk around some of the big planes outside. the staff are lovely and its great value for the money. what a great surprise. we'll be back. expectations need to be managed. this is very local. its not the Canberra war museum but as far as a local collection of aircraft go its great. there is a mix of civilian and military aircraft along with a TAA plane for those that remember who that was.

I live in walking distance to the Moorabbin Air Museum yet only went for the first time last year when my Dad in his late 70's was over visiting from UK. I have since taken my Father in law when he has been out. They both enjoyed it immensely, especially due to the volunteers who are so knowledgeable and even took us to see some of the exhibits that were being worked on. My 40+ husband enjoyed the history side of it. 15 year old son the mechanics and 17 year old daughter - well she walked around and we did discuss things. Finish off with a meal at Aero bar for a simple RSL style meal, reasonable priced, relaxed and welcome feel.
