kuranda scenic railway

说实话，我天生就喜欢坐火车，小时候常常跑到铁路道口去看各种火车。更喜欢坐那种逢站必停的慢车，那样呆在车上的时间可以长一些，喜欢轮轨发出的响声，喜欢机车的鸣笛，喜欢车辆启动加速的轻快。尽管现在越走越远的旅行都坐飞机了，我依然对火车旅行充满期待，尤其喜欢在有美丽风景的地方坐那种慢吞吞的火车，就好比坐着看一卷长长地画卷。去库兰达的火车很简朴但我觉得它很漂亮，上山的路程虽然有些颠簸，车上也没有空调，但我认为这都不算什么。轮轨的颠簸可以让人产生遐想，从窗外吹来的凉风可以让人产生愉悦感。车上人不多，所以行动很自由，尽可以占用整整一排座位，可以尽情的拍照，如果嫌车窗小，还可以走到车厢外的连接处，这样你的视线就可以不受影响，我喜欢这条铁路。

Somehow find the time and the money to take this trip as part of your Queensland experience and you will not be disappointed. We visited at the end of the day and had the stop-offs to ourselves part form the helpful staff. I really don't think anything could beat experiencing the rainforest from above whilst floating in a majestic and almost silent bubble.

The train journey was informative, pretty, comfortable and a good length of time.. There is a stop along the way over looking Barron Falls which is beautiful...

great to be on a train journey with wonderful scenery. Commentary just right. We went up on the Skyrail and back on the train. The only disappointment was Kuranda itself. Half the shops/market stalls were empty. We had the additional experience of a tree across the railway line and having to wait for the chainsaw to arrive! Staff were wonderful and kept us apprised of events at all times and reassured us that the buses would wait for us.

We took the Scenic Railway up to Kuranda and it was an absolutely brilliant way to learn more about the construction of the railway and enjoy a steady climb up to Kuranda village. The views en route are stunning with sweeping vistas of the coastline, rolling mountains and lush waterfalls. The train even stops for 10 minutes at Barron Falls for a great photo opportunity. We took the 8:30am train on a Tuesday so it wasn't too busy-3 of us had a little booth to ourselves. The staff were all very friendly and even come around the train to take pictures with your personal cameras so you have a great photo with the gorgeous views in the background-great personal touch!Kuranda station looks like it has stepped back in time to a sleepy little village in 1920s England-so cute and quaint. I absolutely loved it! A definite recommendation is the afternoon tea at the station in the Refreshment Rooms-best Devonshire scones I have ever tasted and I've had my fair share of afternoon tea!I would highly recommend taking the Kuranda Scenic Railway up to Kuranda and the Skyrail back down again rather than the other way round. That way you have the background knowledge and history of the railway and area and can appreciate the amazing views that Skyrail offers on your descent back into Cairns.

It was good to go up to Kuranda by skyrail and down by the scenic train. The traintrip was quite long though, 2 hrs, and the train was really slow, noisy and a bit too hot inside. However the sceneries on the way were so pretty that it was all worth it!

A pleasant journey with friendly staff, good commentary on the train and surroundings and slowing to the appropriate speed to allow photographs to be taken. Definately worth doing.

I took my family on the Kuranda Rail and we all loved it. The history, views and journey are all great. Mt two sons really loved being in the train and the stops along the way break the journey up for those of you travelling with children. highly recommended.

We joined this train at Freshwater and took it to Kuranda - a nice little museum at the Freshwater station - a fabulous ride up to Kuranda - friendly staff who took our photo on the way up.Really recommended

Wow how much did you say that would cost? That was my first experience at the counter. My son had turned 15 the week before we came away so now he was an adult LOL (I reminded him at home he was not an adult). It was very expensive for a family of 4. My two boys 15 & 12 were bored out of their brains. But in saying that my husband and I liked it and it had very pretty views and interesting history. So for a couple I'd say yes for sure but a bit boring for the kids. They loved the Sky-rail though.

As described by other reviewers, this railroad travels through beautiful mountain scenery as it makes its way up to the village of Kuranda. The problem is not with the railroad but where it goes. The village of Kuranda is basically a buying opportunity. Nothing wrong with that if you like to shop and support the local economy. The trip up the mountain is interesting as you listen to the mining history of the area and marvel at the engineering feats that were required to build the railroad. There are some beautiful waterfalls along the way and plenty of photo opps. We took the skyrail back down and enjoyed the views from above the rainforest canopy. It's not a bargain in terms of price but not over the top either. Too bad there are not more developed activities in Kuranda that don't cost.

We did the morning rail trip to Kuranda and the skyrail back down. Fantastic day out. The train ride was very pleasant and interesting facts all along the trip up to Kuranda. Pleased that we did the trip in the morning as it gets really hot on the train in the afternoon we were told.Train well maintained and very pleasant to ride in.

The scenic railway trip to Kuranda was an optional excursion offerred during our stay in Cairns. I am glad i did it. The scenery is fantastic. Lush vegetation. There is a small museum at the train station at the start of the journey in Cairns with free entrance. Its really worth visiting as you will learn about how the whole railway (with 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges built to climb from sea level to 328 metres up) was constructed with only hand tools. This information adds greatly to the whole experience.Nice views of the Barron waterfalls with a stop at the waterfalls along the way.Really unique experience so dont miss it. On the way back we got the skyrail over the tropical forest which was also amasing and offerred great views of the canopy and the lush forest below!

This is one of the best scenic railway trips I've been on and quite a feat of Civil Engineering it must have been to build it. Look it up on the Internet and you'll get an ideal of the tropical rainforest they had to cut this through and it indicates some of the difficulties they must have overcome in the weather conditions etc.It's old vintage carriages are hauled up to Karunda by a couple of powerful and more modern Diesel engines and on the way there are a couple of stops to let you stretch your legs. Great photo opportunities and one includes the Barron Dam site.We returned by the Skytrain over the top of the rainforest by cable car.Awesome day.
