Adults will be fine but beware if you have children! A blonde older woman at the desk was the rudest encounter we have had in all our travels world-wide. From the minute we walked in (during school holidays) we were warned and chastised like we were in a school headmistresses detention room. "Hands must stay in pockets", "walk properly" "You are talking too fast!!!" these was her first words shouted when my excited son was telling her his story of our visit. Our poor children were spoken to so offensively it was outragous. This lady needs to turn down the old school mistress tone or find another job (as a prison warden). Tourism (which i am in myself) is where you provide happy, positive family experiences. You have a very bad attitude and should be sacked! The visitors center itself is a worthwhile experience and the river etc is lovely.

Will hold your interest for about 5 minutes. Go on a Sunday when the market is on you won't regret it. Some fantastic local crafts being sold. We went during the week as well and the best part was watching a local glass artist making a pendant whilst we watched. The wood chopping display didn't hold any interest for any of our family.

Lovely place to visit to share a meal, drink, or take in the contributing stall holders at the weekly market. Food is good and reasonably priced. Great place to visit with tourists or locals.

We met David Foster on the ferry so it was very interesting to see how this sport is in the family genes. Well worth a visit.

What a great spot to unwind walking through the gardens & then onto the information centre to try some of the locals foods & buy their locals wares. All very friendly & the axeman's display in the back section of this building. Worth a stop while visiting Latrobe. Unfortunately didn't see a platypus but they do have a replica inside that feels like the real thing. Kept our friends happy, as she really wanted to see a real one.

This is a lovely experience of everything Latrobe is about. Lovely coffee and reasonably priced meals. Great Information Centre manned by lovely (senior) citizens who love a chat!! You can book your Platypus experience through the Information Centre and there are Markets on twice a week. Absolutely beautifully clean toilets. The best we have experienced so far. Well done.

Stopped off for a quick bite and a coffee... Markets were a neat array of handmade products and many artists in residence.

Tourist information, and staff were very helpful. Informed us of other great sites around Devonport and told where to see Platypus in the nearby river.

A not to be missed attraction when touring Tassie. Peter and Wendy Maloney have an obvious passion in preserving the heritage of our legendary pioneer timber cutters who literally carved out our early settlements in their new homelands and particularily in Tasmania. This our course leads to the 'sport' of the axeman, and I like many of my generation ,as a Sydney kid, watched many of the axeman whose history is recorded in Latrobe, making the chips fly at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and many other regional shows. Thanks for the memories Peter!

Any body that knows anything about wood chopping would know there was so many good axemen not taking anything away from the guys there but others like Big Jim Alexander for example not a mention . Very disappointed if we had payed I would have asked for my money back.DONT WAST YOUR TIME

It was brilliant we spent the whole day to enable us to walk down the river, listen to the country music festival, have a squiz at the markets and the axemans hall of fame is well worth the stop on its own. The cafe served up excellent food and coffee

Seems as though markets and other projects have taken over this important part of Australian history. With tables and rooms around memoribilia it seems to be forgotten.

Had a great visit and went to the market where we purchased some lovely local produce. Seemed a bit quiet though for a market day. But the hall of fame was so interesting. Very well done.
