Mount Tapioi provides not only a fabulous view but also a wonderful geography lesson. The outline of the reef, varying water depths, Taha'a, Bora Bora, Huahine and life of Uturoa lie before you in a breathtaking panorama. I must admit that what is described as a gentle ascent by others was not easy for me as I am overweight and a senior citizenand though active, the climb in the heat was a challenge.One of the best parts of hiking in the area though,are the lack of surprises by dangerous creatures. No snakes, tarantulas, or poisonous frogs. Just be aware the bull. Luckily the cantankerous fellow just brushed passed my husband as he was taking photos of the flora and ignoring the fauna.Take water, of course. Go early when it is cooler. We spent about three hours on this hike but that includes a very leisurely pace and a fair amount of time enjoying the view. Tasting the guava fruit on the way up was a bonus delight.The trail begins between the Gendarmarie and the post office. Helpful signs point the way.

A few of us trekked up Tapioi for the wonderful view and a bit of exercise. Its easy to find, and a nice break from the cruise boat when you're looking for something other than shopping or an organized shore excursion. On the way down the cattle proved a bit territorial, and one of them actually charged one of us from behind. Although not gored, he did get a pretty unhealthy scratch across his belly.

Walking can take more than an hour to reach the top - but what a paradisical view at the top of Mount Tapioi. Simply breathtaking!!!

We got up 45 minutes before dawn when it was light enough to do normal outdoor activities and hiked up to the top of Mt Tapioi. I had printed a map from the app GaiaGPS, so had no problem finding the trail. Coming from the cruise dock, you go to the right. At the roundabout go right (north) a short distance. Just past the bibliotheque and just before the gendarme station a small road goes off on the left. Follow it straight past a cattle grate where it bends right and then left, and then reaches a gate to block car traffic. Past that point just follow the main path. It took us a bit longer than we thought from the ship, maybe 50 minutes, so we missed the sun rising, but the views around to Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora and Huahine were excellent. There was a strong wind at the top and the day was beautiful. If you want you can walk all the way around the top and connect back to the main trail to go down. Next time we would get up 15 minutes sooner to get up there for dawn. It was coolish when we started but got warm quickly. We saw a number of other people, almost all alone, getting their morning exercise climbing the hill.

beautiful views from the top of Uturoa "city" the coral reef and Tahaa. the route is not always well marked, but it appeared to be a popular place for locals to go for a walk or jog, and anywhere I wasnt sure which way to go some one would jog or walk past within a few minutes to help point the way - and if accidently going the wrong way it becomes obvious within a few minutes and a simple back track to get on the right path.the views are definitely worth the hike!

Super randonnée d'environ 1H pour arriver à une vue à couper le souffle. On peut y voir Tahaa, huahine et Bora au loin ! On surplombe Raïatea et on a l'impression d'être seuls au monde. A faire !!!

La montée se mérite par un chemin carrossable sans difficultés majeures. De l'ombre qui fait du bien en montant et un paysage qui se découvre au dernier moment vers le lagon Tahaa et au loin BORA BORA.

Après une petite montée qui vous prendra à peu près 1 heure, vous allez avoir un vrai choc : le point de vue est renversant, absolument sublime !! Foncez !

La ballade vaut les quelques efforts pour arriver en haut.Tout commence à partir de la gendarmerie. Prendre le chemin à gauche quand on fait face à la gendarmerie. Après le terrain de basket il y a un vieux bâtiment, après celui-ci il faut prendre à droite. On passe ensuite "à travers" la propriété d'une petite fabrique locale. A partir de là il faut juste suivre le sentier en forme de S pour atteindre le sommet.Ne pas oublié un chapeau et sa bouteille d'eau ça tape!

Après 45 minutes de marche, entourés de chevaux, vaches et taureaux, vous arrivez au sommet et c'est juste splendide!! Vous voyez Tahaa, Bora Bora et Huahine. C'est la seule "randonnée" que vous pouvez faire gratuitement et elle est relativement facile.

Une balade à faire sans hésitez si vous passez à Raiatea. A faire de préférence à un moment où le soleil ne tape pas trop vu qu'il y a assez peu d'ombre et prévoir de l'eau. La vue une fois en haut vaut vraiment le détour!

Juste avant d'arriver, le taureau avec sa grande famille nous a fait rebrousser chemin, mais normalement, les bovidés sont dans la plaine, bonne balade.

Un chemin pour éviter la boucle le long de la plage qui permet de rejoindre Vaitape en suivant un chemin à l'intérieur de l'ile . De plus en Haut près des antennes vous avez une magnifique vue sur le lagons. Vous traversée un chemin avec une flore très intéressante pour découvrir les arbres et fleurs Polynésiennes .A conseiller même si cela demande un peu d'effort, N'hésiter pas a demander votre chemin car les points de départs ne sont pas fléchés .Marie Claude & Jean Paul

Une petite heure pour monter au mont Tapioi. On passe à côté de la gendarmerie et on va tout droit jusqu'a un parking. De là il faut partir un peu sur la droite derrière un hangar pour reprendre la même direction. On traverse une propriété privée mais les randonneurs sont autorisés. Un peu plus loin on trouve une boîte au lettre sur une murete de propriété. On peut y laisser une petite pièce qui aidera à l'entretien du chemin. Cet accès serait payant que ça ne choquerait pas, tellement la vue en haut est magnifique.Ce sentier est fréquenté par des sportifs qui montent en courant.En marchant il faut compter une petite heure pour monter et un quart d'heure de moins pour descendre.La vue sur Tahaa et Bora et magnifique.Ne comptez pas sur un beau coucher de soleil. Il se couche trop loin des îles.
