As noted by others, Dofre owns the business which has the 4 quad vehicles. For the short tour (supposed to be 2 hours but since there was no one after us he spent over 3 hours) you get to go all the way to the radio tower on top of the mountain. The view is SPECTACULAR! If you take the cab tours you go only about 1/2 way up. Dofre is a wonderful host who fills you in on the vistas, the culture, the flora and fauna as well as anything else that you care to talk about (even including his personal life history). It is obvious he truly loves what he does (it doesn't appear to be a job to him) which makes the trip even that much more enjoyable. The cost for the short tour is about $100pp (10,000xpf/pp). It is soooo worth every penny. Do NOT pass up this experience.

Just went to Nuku-Hiva while on a cruise. Only stopped for one day and had pre-booked this tour based on Trip Advisor reviews. Dofre (Real name Frédéric) was great! He speaks excellent English for non-French speakers like us. Met us at the dock and was ready to go with the quads already there. We did a 4 hour trip up into the mountains. Pants are not required but suggested as you will most likely go through some mud so wear something you don't mind getting dirty. Dofre took us to his "Quiet place". Here you can relax for 20-30 min, enjoy conversation and possibly a beer if you like Heineken-Dofre's choice. We were able to get an exchange rate of 92xpf in Tahitii at the local bank. Dofre takes only the local currency. We noticed our credit card purchases were a better rate of 96xpf per U.S. dollar. Bottom line is this is by far and away the best way to enjoy this island with limited time. If you are a beginner still take this tour. Dofre explains the operation and the pace is easy. The quads are in good condition and easy to ride. Cost was 15000xpf per person approximately $325 for two. Word to the wise- Pre-book or you may not get to go the day of. Also Dofre mentioned he is considering selling this business within the next year so double check if you are going sometime next year.

We spent two weeks in French Polynesia, and this was our favorite activity we did the entire time we were there! It was so fun, and Dofre is awesome. There's a few different trips on offer; my husband and I did the Big Z. We spent about six hours total on the trip, led by Dofre. We got the true ATV experience - driving fast, mud everywhere, smiling faces. And, we climbed on the ATVs to get incredible views of Nuku Hiva, stopped to check out a cool river/small waterfall/pond, and learned a lot about French Polynesia, the Marquesas, and life in general from chatting with Dofre. All in all, the most fun and most honest adventure we had. We wished we hadn't done it our last day in the Marquesas, because we probably would have booked a second day checking out another part of the island by ATV with Dofre! Note that if you do a full day trip you'll need to provide your own lunch. There's a few grocery stores on the main drag in town, and Dofre has a pack on the back of two of the ATVs to store food, water, etc. Make sure to bring bug spray, and you'll need to wear long pants. When we went he only accepted cash; an ATM is easily spotted on the main drag between the grocery stores and dock. Dofre's English is superb, so there's no problem communicating by email, telephone, or in person.

I had a great full day aventure on the island of Nuku Hiva thanks to Dofré and his tour ! Great views and hidden places that only locals are aware of. With Marquises Quad Aventure, a tour on quads means fun since Dofré adapts the tour according to your riding capacities : If you want speed and mud, you get it ! I highly recommend it !

Since there were few reviews, I was worried they may not speak English. That is, till I emailed the owner. He speaks wonderful English, was quick to respond and very flexible. Willing to take us where we wanted. I must have emailed him four times and he always responded quickly.Dofré met us at the dock when our cruise ship tender came in. He was waiting with the quads to take four of us on our adventure. We rode with two on the quad, and he lead the way. The ride was smooth, most of the way, and only became rough, when we were near the top of the mountain. When we saw the view from the top...it was just plain spectacular! We also learned a bit about the island and saw some of the historical sites. He was patient, gave great instruction and the quad were well maintained, sturdy and accommodated two easily. Everyone on our cruise was soooo jealous that they did not choose our adventure. No one had anywhere near the fun we had.
