Best waterfall we saw in NZ. Easy access and quite a bit of water even when its dry. See with other places along this road.

Visited these magnificent falls at the end of our day long caving trip and so were a bit weary and nearly turned back. Don't. It's a bit of a drive from Waitomo but it's definitely worth it. It's an easy and short walk from the car park through a bit of rainforest. It then opens up to a deck which perfectly frames the falls as it should. What a sight!

Down a hidden trail on a thickly-forested hillside and suddenly this amazing sight emerges in front if us! Simply breath-taking! We preferred it to the glow worm caves as there was no hype about this, and it was nature at its best.

Those are one of the best waterfall seen so far after traveling Australia and part of New Zealand, coming from the north of italy close to lakes and mountains ;)

A stunning waterfall, thundering down in full spate, the walk from the road takes just 10 minutes along a well maintained path & i am very pleased we had our camera charged for the end result.

It will take a bit to drive there (20 mintues from Waitomo) on winding roads and then a short walk, but a must do if you are going to Waitomo. Also check out the natural bridge too.

It's said that these are the most beautiful in NZ - I was dubious. But they really are gorgeous and we gazed at them a long time! If you go at the right time of day, they'll make you a rainbow too! We were there at around 5pm in January. Definitely stop off here.

The falls are beautiful, and well worth the trip. The drive from Waitomo to Marakopa was very scenic with good stops on the way. The beach/lagoon at Marakopa is a good spot for swimming and fishing.

32 km west of Waitomo Caves, 5 mn walk from the road.No traffic, no parking jam, no fee, not an "attraction"......... just the beauty of nature

It was a short hike to see this waterfall through a forest. The slope is steep in a few spots but if you take it slow it is not an extreme hike. Nice break from driving.

The owner in Juno Backpackers suggested me to take a long and scenic route from Waitomo to new plymouth. Along the way I saw the sign to Marakopa Falls. I decided to check it out. Absolutely the correct decision. The walk from the main road takes about 10 minutes. The memories of the falls will last a lifetime.

A short and relatively easy walk to the view point - feels a million miles from anywhere. As others have noted, there is an informal (muddy) track down to the river below the falls, and on a clear and sunny day we made our way down ( a bit of a scramble back up) and were able to swim and explore the rocks below the falls easily - well worth the effort and a better way to appreciate the scale of the falls.
