770 steps through native bush, but well worth it: at the top a fantastic view and although not there at dawn being where the new day begins was wonderful. Take the drive out slowly and safely.

A steep climb up the 700 steps through the bush, but a very special part of New Zealand. Don't miss it.

well worth getting up early to see the sun rise an absolute must. Steps up to the light house were ok.

End of the world place, with briliant views, especially in good weather. But quite a climb (750 steps) to get there!

it was great the road is gravel and there are cows and horses everywhere no fences so dont run them over mares and foals was lovely lighthouse was a light house great day, the marae matahi o te tau is on the way as well as the landing where my ancestors lived great great place

The road out to the lighthouse is spectacular. Don't be in a hurry. There is a cliimb up a lot of steps to the lighthouse proper, but it is worth it. Spectacular. It is fun to be there and realize that at that moment you are the "most easterly person in the world".

To be honest we enjoyed the 20km coastal drive more than the lighthouse. The steep climb is just about worth it for the limited views. The coastal scenery on the way to the lighthouse were far more spectacular and beautiful. Still worth doing if only to say you have climbed up to the most easterly lighthouse in the world.

Be the first to see the days sunrise. Climb the 700+ steps to East Cape lighthouse. Enjoy the rays of the rising sun as it slowly warms your skin. The dusty 20km drive from Te Araroa is well worth it.Watch out for livestock on the road especially when driving early in the morning before sunrise.

Bit of a mystical experience for New Zealanders - the most easterly point in godsown. The 22km drive is a little bit of a challenge with wandering stock and patches of shingle. But don't be put off - there's a long paved patch in the middle and the coast, particularly towards the lighthouse, is really spectacular. But do keep alert for cows and horses on the road!

Well worth the drive along the unsealed road and the climb up, actually 759 steps (i counted). If you go to Cape Reinga (the most northerly lighthouse of the island) you have to go to the most easterly lighthouse. We didn't see anyone when we were there, something special about being that high, oh forgot to mention the earthquake we had whilst at the top, that made the experience something to remember!!

It is special to be on the easternmost tip of NZ. And gives a great workout going back down the steps.

Long way, drive is pretty bad and very rough, but glad I can say I been to the most easterly part. Need 4wd.

It is a steep climb but a good path with steps and quite a lot of the walk was under a canopy of native bush. The day we visited was amazing with views to match. The area is remote and interesting. We passed families, middle aged and older folk enjoying the sights. In wet weather the steps could be slippery.

The drive out is a bit tight in places and watch out for wandering cattle as fences are optional along this area
