domaine & vins gelinas

We were driving from the Quebec City area back to Montreal, hoping to find a nice spot for lunch on the way. We followed the first blue sign with the "grapes" symbol on it, exit 180, Yamachiche. It's 17 km off the highway, but we found it easily by following the signs. We tasted some delightful wines--all tasting is free except for the ice wine. The host was a lovely woman who indulged me in practicing my French, and also practiced her English on us. We stayed for lunch on the covered patio in front of the tasting room--there were a handful of choices in the $7-12 range--and enjoyed a sweet, relaxing little meal. The salad dressing featured the ice wine, and there was also a wonderful onion confit made with the ice wine.We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stop! (Of course, a beautiful mild sunny day made it even better.)

C'est avec délice que nous avons fait la découverte du Domaine des Vins Gélinas. Nous avons aimé l'atmosphère conviviale et détendue - agréable. La visite guidée est remplie d'informations pertinentes sur les vignobles et la fabrication du vin. Surtout: leur vin! Habitués de goûter des vins dans de nombreux vignobles, soit au Québec ou en Europe,nous avons été étonnés de la grande qualité de chacun de leurs vins. Leur «Cavalier du Versant» est agréablement fruité en version blanc, surprenant en version blanc boisé et très riche en version rouge. Blanc et rouge sont des gagnants canadiens. Leur vin de glace Signature a été champion canadien 2 fois et leur fortifié (genre porto) s'inspire du chocolat. Et ils développent un rosé et un rouge plus corsé. Nous avons aimé le vin, l'ambiance, le petit resto (le brie chaud au confit d'oignons-un péché) et l'expertise du domaine. On peut même y participer sans frais aux vendanges! Ils ont des méchouis, un chapiteau pour mariages, etc. L'entreprise est familiale, assez grande mais pas trop (quand même, plus de 35,000 bouteilles par année et ils augmentent vers 50,000). Juste un petit conseil: offrez-nous un prix à la caisse de vos vins variés! à bientôt!
