A great place to study, hang out, visit, and especially mountain bike or hike. A little confusing if you don't know your way around.

My husband attended SFU years ago. We took the kids to see it when we were in town. It was beautiful with the mountains.

As a new student at SFU, I'm staying on campus upon Burnaby mountain and am so enjoying it! Living literally in the forest and breathing fresh air and being in a quiet environment is what I wanted!

SFU is rated one of Canada's best (always in the top 3) comprehensive universities due to its high-quality programs, faculty members and students. Its research is world-renown. The architecture is to my liking (although admittedly not loved by all). Views of the vancouver area are terrific. The addition of UniverCity,,,the residential community adjacent to campus...adds to its attractiveness. Walking to work, study or shop is easy.

This architecturally designed quadrangle campus is located atop Burnaby Mountain so offers not only a unique style of building but also fabulous views of the surrounding area.Simon Fraser offers a full range of academic studies and has an extensive continuing studies department as well.As a tourist, it offers a lovely place to walk and get some great views of Burnaby.

It's been a long time since I attended classes here, but it remains an architechural marvel. Now days I hire graduates, who always seem well educated.

Simon Fraser University is my alma mater and I wouldn't trade it for any other place. Erickson's architectural project may seem enormously massive but the expansiveness of the campus fits perfectly on top of the mountain. The landscaping is very inviting and lets you always find your own quiet corner. Nature and art are present everywhere in many forms and you feel you are in a special place while studying there.I highly recommend the trip to the book/gift store even if you don't attend any classes.

I dislike all of Erickson's designs and can't for the life of me figure out why he was so popular. I think he must have been raised in Treblinka by parents who were afraid of a nuclear holocaust. Wherever he's left his footprint you feel like there should be a fifty mile exclusion zone around the edifices. What an ugly scar on a beautiful mountain, what an ugly scar on the potentially beautiful centre of Downtown Vancouver, did he ever think of open spaces and harmony with the setting? Thank goodness our natural beauty overpowers these creations from the dark side.

I only get to the Vancouver area once in a while, on this trip we visited both UBC and SFU. Simone Fraser Uni just keeps growing and growing - it has come a long way since the mid 1960's. The buildings and site still look futuristic - I wonder when that future will arrive?

Just take an afternoon off and go up the mountain and soak in the SFU atmosphere!

SFU was designed by Arthur Erikson and is reputed to be world renowned for its architecture. I think the best thing about SFU, apart from the learning that can be gleaned there, is the fact that it is on the top of a mountain, surrounded by trails. It is a wonderful place to get an education--much smaller than UBC and, consequently more intimate, but the "award winning architecture" is utterly depressing.

Some of the best views of the Vancouver area can be had from the viewpoint at SFU.The campus sits atop Burnaby Mountain in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. From the parking lot you can see all the way to the southern Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island itself on a clear day The viewpoint is easily accessible by car or bus.I don't know anything else about SFU itself..but Burnaby mountain has some great bike trails.

Tours can be arranged but if you are just visiting then take a walk through the Convocation Mall to the Academic Quadrangle. The view looking back over to Vancouver is great. The whole area is pretty easy to get around and there is visitor parking. The one thing that many people do not know about is the view from Burnaby Mountain Park that is at the end of Centennial Way. Centennial Way runs off Burnaby Mountain Parkway. From here you will get a great view of downtown Vancouver and also Indian Arm.
