We viewed the carvings, some of which have been dated up to 3000 years old, with a young Nuxalk man, who added so much to our experience with his stories of growing up and playing in this magnificent setting. The walk to the carvings was magical, in the forest by a fast running river. Bring some good walking shoes as it can be a bit tricky in places. The carvings were surprising in their range and diversity. This gave some insight into the rich culture of the Nuxalk people. We first viewed the modern art gallery of the same name, that had splendid Nuxalk based artwork and arranged to see the ancient petroglyphs. This is sign posted from the main road a couple of miles out of Bella Coola.Highly recommended.
