The first day we went to Signal Hill it was quite foggy and we still thought it was quite nice. The next day we had some extra time and decide to go back and take a look. I am so happy we did because the views of the harbour were quite amazing. We were able to view the ships in the harbour. We went up into the light house and bought some hand made slippers for family back home. The old cannons are there on display and we felt like we could be back in time viewing the ships as they entered the harbour. It was great fun.

Signal hill was fantastic--gorgeous view and absolutely worth it (even with the windchill of a sunny February day). However, we walked up. And when I say we walked up, I mean I was reminded of why even thinking about the word 'callisthenics' makes me sweat. Yes, I was out of breath. Yes, I am out of shape. But yes, I made it, and once I was up there and had stopped swearing and was looking down at all the hill I had conquered, I felt a little bit better than the people who took the easy way out and drove! By legs or by wheels, beautiful historic site that is a must-see in eastern Canada.

If you visit Signal Hill be prepared to be disappointed, being from Newfoundland I am fully aware of how our weather can be unpredictable and often poor. So, if you are travelling here from another Province, Country etc and are expecting beautiful weather, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. In saying that, the other 75% of the time when the weather is nice here, you will find an amazing view of our lovely city, I would strongly recommend walking the trails around signal hill and through the battery, however be prepared there are hundreds of stairs to climb or a serious hill to climb depending on where you park your car. I find it best to park at the old Battery Hotel that way you can easily walk half way up signal hill on the road and down the stairs before walking back up the other half to your car.Be sure to go inside of cabot tower while visiting and stop at the Signal Hill Tattoo.

The view is amazing! It shows the wonderful colors of the city and holds a lot of history. The hiking trail is also beautiful during the summer! If you are able to do it be sure to take your camera!

Signal Hill is the best free thing you can do in St. John's. There are lots of hiking trails that will bring you to come very unique places. It's a great place to take a lunch with friends and enjoy the view.

In walking around Signal Hill, you cannot escape feeling the past. The views are magnificent. The trails are excellent.

This is a must visit if you are in St John's. Signal Hill offers a spectactular view of the city and Harbour Front, especially at night. Then, when you look out over the broad expanse of ocean, you realize just how far east you really are. You may be lucky enought to see a whale or a boat. You feel you have seen a small glimpse of paradise. There is walking trails , and a gift shop on site.

It's beautiful and in the midst of the city; especially close to downtown. There's a meandering trail that leads you along the coast and up the hill, and will require some nerve in a place or two. If you're a little less ambitious, get a cab up the hill, enjoy the view, and take the same hiking trail down. PS. If there's snow, I'd skip the trail, steely nerve and all. PPS. I once was picking berries along the cliff when a humpback whale breeched below.

While Signal Hill offers a tremendous view of North America's oldest City, it also gives the visitor the opportunity to realize just how "Far East" St. John's is. Looking to the right you will see not only a vibrant, modern city, but the history that comes with being a 500 hundred year old port town. When you look to your left you will see nothing but the vast North Atlantic.
