It is next door to the DesBarres Manor Inn , where we were staying . Otherwise I am not sure we would have visited . The courthouse has some resemblance to its function in the past . However , for the most part it is filled with antiques and items from the Village of Guysborough's past . What really struck home with my wife and myself was the courteousness and enthusiasm of the young ladies working in the facility . They went the extra mile to make sure we were informed and enjoyed our visit .

This is the source of documents and artifacts that will help anyone trying to trace their family history in this area. In addition, the researchers and volunteers are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable - great resources, so do not be shy about asking questions. The museum is nicely decorated and displays well set up to provide a glimpse of days gone by. A real gem of a resource as well as an interesting museum.

My sister and I visited this Museum midweek and were the only ones there. The student guide was very friendly and anxious to share his knowledge of the museum building, the artifacts and history associated with the courthouse. We would have stayed longer but had to get to another destination that afternoon. While there is no admission fee, a goodwill offering is suggested.
