The outfitter store is worth seeing in itself. It's a pretty short drive into the store and Lake, I have seen moose from the road in twice. The lake is very large and very beautiful and very desolate.

Lake Opeongo is enormous and was tons of fun to spend a whole day paddling. We saw a lot of awesome wildlife and plant life. Towards the end of the day a storm rolled through just as we were in the middle of the lake and had an intense time trying to paddle back. It was crazy hard work, but such a unique experience!

Spent a night at Opeongo Lake in the Algonquin Interior. We were looking forward to Algonquin's beautiful surroundings and peaceful setting. Park staff were all very friendly and helpful. This being our first attempt at kayak-camping, we reserved on the South Arm of the lake so that we wouldn't have to paddle too long before finding a site. And the site we found didn't disappoint! Easy access to bring the boats up out of the water, firepit with grills, log benches to sit on, and "Thunder boxes" (rustic port-o-john's). Tons of trees for shade or to set up hammocks, shades, etc...and nice flat areas to pitch tents. Our camp was visited by some adorable little field mice, and we heard a distinct canine sound in camp late at night but it was too dark to see what it was. Our best guess is a fox. All proof that you really do need to secure your food! We saw a LOT of loons out on the water, and we also saw a mother black bear and her two cubs crossing the road on our way out of the park! The one thing that ruined it for us was that there were motor boats on the lake. Nothing shatters the peace and quiet like the roar of a motor passing by :( . I wish all National and Provincial parks would just ban all motorcraft! If it weren't for the motors I would definitely have given this place 5 stars.

Also alle Freizeitkanuten, das ist eur See.
