Visit a local library and you can not only find a great travel book, rent an old movie for free basically, jump on a computer or take in some local artist art show! A great place to lose yourself into another world!

It's a library with books. That is basically what it is. Some annoying people there who don't respect other. Some even have DATES there. But what they do is their business not mine. Would commend if you love reading books but if you want that fancy book reading cafe type of vibe don't go here.

I was amazed when I moved to Toronto that the Public Library had no membership fee as my previous one did. I'm in the Library at least once a week borrowing books, DVDs and ebooks, and love all the collections and services they have. Everyone in Toronto should take advantage of this superb free service. With its 99 branches there has to be one nearby. While some are more comfortable than others, it is fun to explore. And the Toronto Reference Library is a jewel in the crown.

Most of my visits to the Reference Library on Yonge have been to attend work related meetings and functions. The Reference Library has many venues for large of small meetings. There are constantly free seminars being offered here. Of course they have many books and publications for use and a massive area for Internet use. They have a robust on line borrowing system that allows access to a variety of on line media.

A spacious, but otherwise unassuming building, the Toronto Public Library is fantastic !!!One proof of the great service it provides are the many people in here, at any time of the day, Monday to Sunday, and yet, so quiet, inviting, easy to find your way around. The staff is quick to help, and books will be on your table in no time at all. Many are easy to find on your own, as are the magazines. Visitors to Toronto, with a bit of more time, will enjoy relaxing in this library, getting their e-mail, leafing through a magazine or the newest book everybody was talking about it.

Reference Library on Yonge is great. Staff extremely helpful. Easy to get to and lots of eating places and stores nearby. You can both visit the library in person or download some books. What I also like is you can locate books online at another branch and they will bring the book to your local branch - a great service.

Went to the Toronto 'Mini-Makers Fair' there in October 2014. A great Fair and an INSPIRED way to bring more of the community into experience the library.

This Yonge St. public facility is excellent and impressive, but "public" also means it is freely open to everybody. And obviously, all visitors do not come there for books and fine literature...Noticed today:- Some suspicious people nervously hanging around on 4th floor, looking for each other. (Drug dealing?)- Computer being used to watch some porn webcams. Really??- People sleeping on the floor behind bookshelvesOverall not a very safe feeling and no security guards in sight at the time of my visit.Perhaps the entry should be allowed to registered members only.It may not solve all the issues, but at least prevent some.

From the TPL website: With 99 branches, Toronto Public Library is the largest public library system in Canada, and the world's busiest urban library system. Every year more than 18.5 million people visit our 99 branches and borrow over 32 million items!Love the TPL - so many beautiful branches and great online borrowing & renewing system.

I find the Toronto Library's mostly in need of a good cleaning and painting and updating.True you can find excellent materials...and computers to use for free. But I feel dirty after being at one. And there have been bed bugs etc found in these locations.!

The Toronto Public library is one the city's great secrets. Filled with with objects known as "books" the library functions as a bastion against the onslaught of modern technology. Here one can take out a "book" go home and "read" and actually learn something! I recommend the reference and occult sections. Please visit the library, they only had 2 visitors all last year, so the the librarians could do with some company.

Each Library is a community hub and offers many programs and activities specific to the needs of that community. Can't imagine our city without our libraries.
