Well, I must say that I am biased because this is where I live. What a beautiful town....hilly, surrounded by water and waterfalls and a lovely little main street with sophisticated restaurants and shops. Baker Bob's is a sweet bakery and Don's Meat Market is a delectable butcher shop. There's also the Palm for coffee, snacks and people watching through their large picture window. The people in Almonte are very friendly. There are lots of festivals as well. Also, the town is only half an hour away from big city Ottawa. I often notice people from Ottawa on a day trip, poking around town and looking rather happy. Come give our small town a visit and see what I am raving about.

The whole atmosphere was delightful, lots of boutique style stores and cafes... lovely views of the river, waterfalls, flowers, nobody seemed to be in a hurry... I bet a great place to reside.

The town of Almonte, about 30 miles west of Ottawa, Ontario, has a completely re-done main street, composed of shops, restaurants and pub style eateries. It is a delightful place to spend a day, with lunch in any of 1/2 dozen locales, and many interesting shops and galleries to explore. If you desire you can finish the day with a dinner in one of the eateries, all of which have specialties.

Almonte is a great little town to visit if you are interested in walking through a town that still has an essence of history. So many towns in Ontario have been turned into main streets of fast food and box stores--a pity! The town of Almonte, Ontario, is one of those that has kept much of its historic buildings--thank heavens for that. Though I must admit, a Subway outlet is the only real eyesore on main street which has taken over the front of an historic building. The town needs to do something about that. I have nothing against Subway, but please hide it on a side street.Almonte sits alongside Canada’s Mississippi River, in Lanark County in the heart of The Ottawa Valley. Almonte is about half an hour’s drive from the west end of Ottawa. It’s a peaceful and attractive village with about 5,000 people—though you’d swear there were no more than 500. The river drops 60-65 feet as it passes through Almonte in a series of dramatic waterfalls and rapids that, so the story goes, first attracted millers and other industrialists to the area early in the 19th century. The prosperity that typified much of the 19th century is apparent in the large Victorian homes and limestone public buildings, and large sections of the town remain essentially unchanged from a hundred years ago or more.I visited the place more than 20 years ago, and though there have been some changes over those years, much has stayed the same. The mill is still here and so is the old town which is great for walking and site seeing. The main street is at the heart of the historic old town and is great for browsing the antique stores, bakeries, and other shops of interest. There are several lunch and dinner spots in the old town too.

Almonte is a small rural village that has everything you could need, shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. A short boardwalk has been built over the fast flowing river, just below the weir making a lovely walk and a great photo location. Have a drink at the waterfront pub or a light snack in the Robins Nest cafe and your trip will be complete!

The annual Highland Games are a treat: good music, interesting sports, excellent shopping for unusual items. The park with the falls is fantastic. Lots of neat and unusual shops, great bookstore, and 'Rocks & Trees' ice cream shop can't be beat.

Great spot to spend an afternoon. Amazing old buildings along th main street. Lovely river, nice shops, good parks and biking potential. Great coffee shops. Home of Equator Coffee Roasters. Make sure shops are open if you're heading out on a Monday or Sunday.

A great little village for couple's or friends to explore. Lots a quante shops, including an Antique market. There are a couple of tea rooms, a crepery and a few other great little restaurants to enjoy. Also a lovely little place to walk along the mississippi river. Not for young families..unless you are in the area during the Puppets up festival.

Nice little town on Mississipi river. Old center, waterfalls. Follow the river to Blakeney Rd and turn right. Stop just before the bridge and walk 5 minutes to the series of rapids.

Almonte set in the heart of Mississippi Mills has worked tirelessly and creatively to develop a warm, interesting and inviting atmosphere. There are endless photographic opportunities, lovely riverwalks and shops that offer lovely products. It's a village that thinks outside the box.
