My kids love reinacting so I have been to a number of war museums. We have been visiting the area for years. I don't know why my inlaws never took us here before? This is an extrememly good museum. The fort itiself was apparently rebuilt when it was affordable to do so properly; it wouild never be done today. The staff is very dedicated and knowledgeable. The cannon collection spectacular and the gun collection VERY respectable. The quarters and work areas are all outfitted and active. Dont miss the beer celler. Even the kegs are original!

I'm enjoying the fort, it's history, and a beautiful day. I'm on my own and bothering nobody. I even smile at our neighbors to the north. Then in the midst of recruit training a simple query comes up, "Are there any Americans in our midst?" I raise my hand to lend my support. I'm asked to stand at a point to the left of the recruits. I comply. Once in place, the sergeant turns to the recruits, having already drilled them in the use of their rifles and points at me and yells,"KILL THE AMERICANS!!". So went the War of 1812.

We went to watch the last sun set ceremony in August. It rained but we still had a marvelous time. The story behind the fort's history is well told through tours of the fort. The sun set ceremony had all sorts for all ages. There was an interactive part at the start for children "training" them to be soldiers. The rest of the ceremony helps tell the tale of the fort through amazing light displays and reenactments of battles including canons, fire arms and band march sequences. Prepare for some loud noise! Only downside is that they do not do a student discount so it is rather pricey.

Fort Henry is worth the money. They have a children's' program to entertain the young ones. The restaurants, especially the outdoor patio with its magnificent views, are good too.Be sure to wear a hat as it is quite sunny at the fort. The sunset ceremony, held once a week, is great .

If your in Kingston this is a must see. Even if you just go for the amazing view from the top of the hill. The fort overlooks The City of Kingston and Lake Ontario with island views. A beautiful scene in the fall. Go when they have the sunset ceremony (bring ear protection for the young ones) It's a 1800 century fire fight very loud! but fun. We live here in Kingston and go at least once a year

This is where the Canadians fortified their position against any foreign (American) invasion. See where the British troops slept and drilled for the invasion that never happened. Still a very cool place to visit.

Normally I do not enjoy history, and would not classify learning about it as fun. But when you see the drills that the Fort Henry Guard perform you admire the hard work that these young people have done to entertain and inform you. If you get to see some fireworks that is an added bonus. By the way, I did not cover my ears when the canon was fired and man was it LOUD! You cannot help but love the view from the Fort, looking towards the beautiful waterfront of Kingston is amazing!A little known fact is you can drive into Royal Military College and all the way around the outer peninsula really close to the water. Please be respectful of students and anyone who is marching.Have fun, learn, and enjoy the city I have made my home for the last 20 + years.

Fort Henry is a great place to visit! They always have something on the go almost all year.Fort Fright = AMAZING!, Sunset ceremony = great for all ages, and there are always festivals and such going on there. If you are visiting Kingston or are a resident, you must experience it.

Really felt like I was there 150 years ago, leaning on the old limestone, over looking the St Lawrence River. Imagine what it must of been like, peering over the walls, fully expecting an invading force to sail up the river. Cannons at the ready, muskets loaded.....an amazing attraction. Really shows what it would of been like...all those years ago. And of course the glass of wine in the restaurant, was a pleasant end to it all.

This is an excellent historical site! There are many activities in the spring/summer/fall for all ages inside and around the fort. Highly recommended :)

This is a great place to go for some history and a lovely outing overlooking the Kingston waterfront. Be sure to take in the Rideau Locks - this is a World Heritage Site! If you check out the schedule, you can also enjoy hearing the Kingston Symphony and seeing fireworks at Fort Henry.

Fort Henry is a great half day trip to an historical attraction. The site itself is conveniently located to Kingston. They have different events that they offer over the course of the season to give people additional reasons to return to visit. I would recommend visiting if you're in Kingston, as the views alone make it worthwhile. The Fort was originally situated as the main defence for Kingston from an attack from the water. As a result, the Fort practically overlooks all of Kingston. There's a lot of history to Kingston and a lot to Fort Henry.
