Beautiful from outside even better from inside.Well kept and respectful. We visited with my family during our trip thru Canada, the stained glass windows are sublime. It is like been in an old European Cathedral just that you are in Kingston..

Saint Mary's Basica is the least decorated Catholic Church that I have ever seen. It is very plain. If you took the body off the cross and removed the sanctuary light, you would think that you were in a Protestant church. The church was also very dark.

What a beautiful church. We were in Kingston for sailing events at CORK. I didnt have time to attend but my wife did and she described the church as a most magnificence building with all kinds of stained glass windows.

Gorgeous interior and impressive grand exterior!!! Get a small taste of the flavour of European cathedrals while in Kingston.

A landmark of Kingston, St-Mary’s cathedral’s soaring gothic spire catches the eye from as far as Highway 401, several kilometres away. St-Mary’s gothic style preserves its traditional French roots while appealing to the citizens of the Nouvelle-France of the early 19th Century. St-Mary’s is a large square Gothic block that is impossible to grasp in one gaze. It is tall, imposing, massive and quite ornate with pinnacles on three of its sides, topping pier buttresses and the narthex area. Each pinnacle is topped with a small cross. Standing beside St-Mary’s, one definitely has the feeling that the base is wider than the top; it looks like a tall lady wearing a wide and dark ornate robe, rising to the sky, inviting you to look up towards her head, towards divinity. Each of St-Mary’s entrance doors is recessed and has a Marian window in its tympanum, linking to the church patron, the Virgin Mary. The doors are made of wood and feature the ogival Gothic arch shape. These are topped with an outlined spandrel flanked by two pinnacles and topped with a cross. Inside St-Mary’s, one is engulfed and disappears in a large open square space immersed in Godly light coming through the tall gothic windows. There are several aisles, equal in width except for the central one. Even the sanctuary is wide open, there are no boundaries, and one fuses with the mass, tucked within a cubby hole. A visit is best done during mass but unfortunately they switch off the lights just a few minutes after mass, so there isn't much time to wander. My best advice is to pick a sunny day.

Lovely old church with many stained-glass windows. I'll bet that the massive organ would inspire worshipers.

A Catedral é tão magnífica que recebe até visitantes não católicos. É uma igreja linda, com afrescos, mármore e detalhes em madeiraç além de um imenso órgão que torna as missas solenes ainda mais especiais.
